PLEASE TRUST SLY PEOPLE!!! his info is solid as it is always. the uniform deal is ridiculous. dr. kerr maybe solid with directing a band, but how it goes together with football he does not. they do not play enough, they should try to get some things going with the cheerleaders and they need to be in their seats at the beginning of the 3rd qtr. BJ, im not trying to bring you guys down, but some improvement is needed. as SJ said when you guys play it is great!

The band can/does add so much to game day. I'm from gator country. It can be very intimidating to hear the "jaws" music on game day. Can we come up with something catchy like that, to play when we're on a roll or when we need to get in the other team's head? Light my fire, Burning ring of fire, but more intimidating. I'm sure the young guns could come up with some motion or the like to go with it (gator chomp with the music). Maybe this has already been discussed, we need something short, to the point and mean, yet in "the liberty way" :P

Well it wasn't right at the kickoff but Dr Kerr did make certain that as soon as everybody got their water that they went straight back to the stands for the 3rd quarter to play.

I thought they did a better job of getting back in the stands Saturday.

I did think that was an odd choice of a color for the T shirt but I don't think it's a big deal. I wish we had less music on the PA and more band playing stuff though. It's a little too NBAesque.

I bet the obnoxious jerks in front of you were annoying, too.

It was the Baptist side, for cryin' out loud- you're supposed to be able to sleep there.

My seats are surrounded by senior citizens, but when Wynton ran that punt back they were going crazy!!!

I thought we got rid of everyone at LU that wanted to "march to their own beat of the drum" (no pun intended) I guess not   8) 8)

This reminds me of something some of our teams in the past would have done...black warm-ups and other stuff....hmmmmm

The shirts did look dumb...someone inside the booth asked where our band was b/c they thought it was a different school, I would have thought it would have been corrected for the second game...hopefully the away games will give them enough turn around time to have it corrected

I thought everyone came to the games to watch the band? The actual game is just a time for the band to a take a break, right? Come on, people. That is just common sense.

Someone from the AD needs to have some type of meeting with Dr. Kerr ASAP...if not I think we'll continue to have problems with the band for a long time.

PS
I still think it's ridiculous that we do the same halftime show every single home game

Believe me, there's been a meeting, and there'll be another.

As for the halftime show, I'm right there with you.

Again, folks. Be patient. It's going to take some of the "old guard" some time to learn to get on board with the new LU athletics mentality. Once they realize how very valuable a First Class organization in athletics is to their little corner of the world...the better.

BTW...I may be the wrong person to be commenting on a band...I was spoiled in undergrad at JMU...with the MARCHING ROYAL DUKES! Now thats a REAL BAND. It would be great if LU could find out what they're doing that makes them one of the best in the country. After all...

In response to doing the same show each game...I would MUCH rather see one good show that 3 different bad ones. I LOVE the fact that LU concentrates on doing one show well than putting a bunch of bad stuff out there.

(And yes, I have seen Appy State's band in person...they actually do a good job with two or three shows...but a lot of schools DON'T...a lot of colleges are a lot worse...they do different shows every game and highschool bands sound better b/c college people are out there playing music they barely know, and barely marching at all...b/c they're learning new stuff each week).

BTW If we're talking best CORPS style band, though...I would go with Notre Dame...and acutally, the Magic of Orlando was actually a college band turned drum corp I believe, so if you count that, they're probably the best corps style band...but that's not really fair to compare b/c they practice all summer.

I love the LU field show. I liked the Madison Scounts version of Malaguani better (or however you spell it)...but what college could pull that off?? I don't like the shirts and would like to see red...but it doesn't really bother me...but I can see why it would bother some people...

Our actually uniforms used to not match the team when they were sort of like the old New York Giants blue...but now the uniforms actually match...it's just the shirts when they take the uniform tops off don't match.

I agree that JMU has a great band and I like to hear them play. I also agree that Liberty should have a great band that really adds to the game day experience. Since I watched the last game on WDRL, it was great to see many students in red shirts, while some had red face paint, and then the camera showed the band in their shirts. :(

The thing I love about App's band is they're constantly playing. They have a crap load of stand tunes that they play throughout the game. My high school played most of em so I know our band could play them.

When we have a band and yet there is more music being played from the speakers, something just doesn't seem to add up, and distracts from the game day experience that the athletics dept has worked very hard to improve.

There's probably music played from the PA because the band doesn't play. I looked over last night and LITERALLY saw the drum major twirling their thumbs.

Funny you shoudl mention JMU. JMU did Maleguena back in 99 I believe it was...I think LU's version sounded just as good...

Yes, I guess I'm a little bit of a band geek...but I remember the JMU band making fun of us cause LU lost something like 53-7 that year...and I yelled, "Madison Souts" wannabes at them (cause they did it one year after Madison)...but I don't think most got it.

But I guess the grass is always greener (Or at least this case the fieldturf alternates shades of green)...

One thing I remember from when I was in band. We were only allowed to play stand tunes when LU had the ball...we were't allowed to play when the other team had the ball...which didn't seem to make sense, b/c we wanted to play...but they played PA music at that time. At the time we did have flipfolders with all this music...but we were barely ever allowed to play it.

So I don't know, if the administration is still asking the band to hold back so they play PA music when LU is on defense to devide it up...I thought that was stupid then, and I think it's stupid now...but I know we used to want to play, but we weren't supposed to...don't know if it was what the atheltics dept. wanted, if it was somekind of obscure NCAA rule that no one follows...or if it's supposed to be some type of good sportsmanship...but I think that is what is still hapening? Not saying I like it....just explaining.

At that time you didn't have minute long tv timeouts, etc either. There are a lot more stoppages now.
