Coastal Carolina deserves the rankings they are getting. we deserve the rankings we are getting. The good news is, we get to prove ourselves on the field, not on some computer or paper ballot...and that is the way it should be. we get them in Williams Stadium in November...and prove ourselves the best place we can...by lacing up our pads and kicking Chanticleer a** in front of 15-20,000 red clad fans
Do they still lace up pads? I thought it was all Velcro now.

It is not my fault you use free form prose and get all discombobulated

Sure, the series is tied. However, in most of the meetings, it has not been a "war." Stop following the historic trends and look at the information that is coming out right now.

Based on where we are right now, the team is at a severe disadvantage in a matchup against Coastal and could very well be blown out in 2015.
What information? I know we've lost a few guys and we have a few holes to fill in the secondary, but it's not as if we don't have the talent, or the coaching staff to do it. As I recall, CCU has some holes to fill too. Both of our QB's should be two of the best in all FCS this year, though I would say we have a few more weapons on offense, plus the better of the special teams. I think this year is going to be a good one.

And what would you be basing this assumption off of. A "severe" disavantage, I don't see it. Every school has to make replacements for players lost.

depends on the model of pads your using. But, yes some pads do still come with laces.

I agree with those asking where your information is coming from as to our being at a "severe" disadvantage, but games are not played on paper.

And I know this is gonna tick you off, but in the 6 previous meetings since CCU launched football in 2003, the Chants have only won twice (2005 and 2013). Both games were decided by less than a touchdown AND went to overtime. In fact, dating back to the debut of the Big South Conference as a football conference that same year, if memory serves me correctly, Liberty has never lost a conference game AT HOME, by more than 7 points. Even the horrifically bad 2005 Karcher squad lost its two home conference games by 3 and 6 points. If trends hold, which I know annoys poor schmucks like you, one of two things will happen:

1) Coastal wins a close game
2) Liberty blows them out, much to the shock and amazement of writers around the country, as well as members of this message board

Personally I think Liberty wins by a field goal.

It's not that the guys moving up the depth chart are individually bad or outmatched. Several of them have great potential. It has to do with the cumulative loss of depth, especially on the offensive line, the safeties, and special teams.

I can give you OL as far as depth goes, safeties will be hard to replace not just 1 but now 2 STARTING safeties at that, but who did we lose on special teams besides the holder.

I'm not talking about the returners, kickers, or punters. They should be fine, barring injuries. It's the guys who block and cover on special teams that I'm worried about.

I believe we also lost 2 DLs and 2 LBs to go along with a CB with both safeties. That seems to be a lot of holes to fill on the D.

I'm not concerned with CB since we had so much depth behind Kenny Scott. Having to replace only one guy there should be no problem with Wes, Guillory, and Holloway.

DL is a concern but at least Dessources and Spicer have significant experience.

Same thing goes for LB as we have Nick Newman returning. Losing Sigmon hurts a lot on paper, but as has been pointed out, after his injury O'Grady and Robbins rotated so much with him at the Mike that Nick's loss will not be too much to overcome. Throw in AJ James at the SAM and I feel fine about linebacker.

Safety is a huge concern. If we had more depth at LB, AJ could move back to safety and we would be ok. But if he moves back, who takes his spot at LB? That's why the loss of Sampson is so big.

These are my thoughts precisely. The biggest hole is at Safety. I am confident that the OLine will be fine... we have some guys with experience returning, and the holes are going to be filled by nice sized players that have been coached up for at least a year. I do worry a little bit about our size at the LB spot... One thing I noticed some towards the end of last year was that when RB's would take on a LB, they were always falling forward for a few extra yards, which almost guarantees 4+ yd runs everytime.

OL protections will be critical and we are replacing some guys there. Same on the DL. Davis, Hagen, and Scott were major threats on FG block formations and will have to be replaced. Some guys who used to be key STs players will now be starting and others will have to take their places.
