that was the rumor all along- I just had trouble believing it based on the (lack of) progress I saw in January. Anyone w/ new pix please post them.

BTW, if you guys saw CCUs plans for their new fieldhouse, it looks alot like ours. Very nice artist rendering over on their board. They're also talking about bumping their seating up to 6000 or 7000 I believe. You'd think they'd go ahead and add a lot more- as successful as they've been- strike while the iron's hot, as it were.

It takes dinero to expand stadiums. And much like LU, they don't have a huge alumni base coughing loads of cash. Fortunately we have some strong benefactors taking care of us.

I've never seen their place- do they just have seating on one side then? I'm assuming they have broadcasting facilities, because I believe their games last year were on radio.

Its not very big, but it is very nice. They had the place at capacity quite a bit this past year so I'm sure expansion will happen when somebody ponies up some cash.

As for the fieldhouse:

Not too shabby. I love seeing the other Big South schools invest in their facilities.

I'll take a few this week and hopefully have them up soon (I don't have a digicam so do have patience with me since disposables take a little time to develop)

I just drove past it leaving class like 20 minutes ago. It was drizzling and there were a couple guys out there working on it. The foundation is completely poured and there are steel beams up like people have said already. It shouldn't take long to get the exterior walls up, just a couple days of nice weather.

Thanks for the pics. I'm still wondering how they are going to finish in time based on what we see there. I hope they don't get sloppy racing the clock.

suh-weet. we got footings and a floor, obviously no basement. I'm thinking only an outside chance of it being done by fall, though.

(The columns look a little light to me for such a big structure, but what do I know.)

Actually, I think there IS a basement--underneath where you see the flooring.

I've been told that LU will be lucky if the place is ready for the 2007 season. We shall see.

Maybe they can get the outside done and make it "look" done from that view. Yeah, I know...optimistic. Is Kodiak the construction firm?

I, too, thought the initial description or floor plans somewhere called for a basement sub-level. Its hard to tell from the pix but I didn't see any stairwell access, even with elevators you'd still need that. Have to get a better look (odd that no one from the architectural firms contacted any of us to discuss this first  )

CORRECTION: I'm an idiot. On second look, there is quite obviously 2 stairwells, framed by 2x4 temporary (I hope) railings on either end of the pad. DUH. I'm going back to bed.

Here is the $64 question - Is this building handicapped accessible? Will it have ramps and elevators? There are/will be several athletes who are on crutches etc, not too mention ADA requirements. Just a thought, since both the Schilling and Hancock are not friendly in that way

I guess you are now officially our main person who goes on the site and gives us updates on how the construction is going.
