Unless we beat them by 60, it would do us no good.

WEll hey we beat them by 60 it makes us look even better because we'd be doing it to the top team in DII or DIII. I was just thinking outside of the box

No, a 60 point win over a DII school is a win over a DII school, it does nothing for it.

Well since my suggestion of playing Grand Valley State or Mt Union failed miserably...

Id want to play ODU since they will have a team starting in 2009 or RIchmond or any of the other teams in the A10 besides JMU (since everyone and their next of kin already suggested them)

Well, they are playing an ACC school this year. Of course, it's Wake Forest, but it's still an ACC school. I remember when they played Marshall and lost 63-3. I think Chad Pennington was QB that year. I don't see why everybody wants to see LU get embarrassed by a D-1 school. It really does nothing for the program.

In addition to Marshall we got beat 60-3 vs Bowling Green, 63-0 to UCF, and 59-0 vs UConn. But I remember when a Morgan Hout recruiting team beat a nationally ranked Eastern Michigan team (If they weren't nationally ranked then they got some votes). It just shows you how far we have fallen.

That's why I said once we get our I-AA program built up, playing the lower tiered I-A schools would be the I-A's I'd like to see.

I would love to see an App St vs ECU game this year. That would be a good game.

Did you just use the words "nationally ranked" and "Eastern Michigan" in the same sentence?

Hard to believe I know but I remember looking at the 1A rankings and seeing them with votes and maybe in the top 25. They were undefeated and finished the year, I believe 8-2-1. We beat them on a last minute Robbie Justino to Eric Green pass. Biggest upset we ever had.

Villanova, Lehigh- and if you want to be ridiculous- Penn State.

then again, Coastal is supposedly set to face JoePa and the MIGHTY NITTANY LIONS in a couple years.

I can see the blood running outta Happy Valley now.

As far as I-AA success...are we really light years behind JMU?

Didn't JMU beat us 14-7 when Karcher was here in the last game of the season in 01 or 02? ...and LU could've had won that game...they had three touchdown passes called back for holding, and the game really ended on a 4th and goal from the 5 that LU couldn't get in...and didn't we lose to Appy State in overtime under Karcher one year? These were games within the last 5 years that could've went either way....I think Appy State was ranked #3 in I-AA at the time.

I'm really excited that we could be a competitve I-AA team very soon!

Yes--and Karcher was OUT-coached in every single one of them.

In other words, what I'm trying to say, is that I don't think we're vastly behind in any major area when compared with some of the top tier I-AA teams...

We seem to have comparable facilities, and even under Karcher, I didn't think for the most part that we were outclassed athletically until last year...we just found a lot of ways to lose.

It seems like the fan support would be there in the beginning, and then die out as we got pounded by the brutal schedules.

I know this is talk about moving to I-A, but we sound so negative...I know we had a brutal season last year...but I don't think we're as far away as people think from being a competitive I-AA team.

Me, too. I hope the bad taste of last year remains in the player's mouths as motivation for the 8 win season I predicted for this season!

Eight wins ain't gonna happen, sorry to burst your bubble. I think they're gonna be better but not that much better. I see a 4-7 season as a strong possibility. Going 8-3 is close to impossible for a Karcher recruiting class.

Are we going to spend the next month talking about this team or ripping Karcher? I just need to know so I can plan my day.

8 wins may be a little strong, but for all the problems Karcher did bring in some talent. Not just his Gadoness. Sure he had a few busts but he did not leave the cupboard bare

Remember that our schedule this year is very weak with the exception of the top 4 teams. This schedule was designed for at least a 6-5 record. But if we really did turn things around then a 7-4 or 8-3 is a realistic possibility. I am only saying that as a result of a very weak schedule.

Also I am not totally sold on the fact that Karcher was a poor recruiter. He was just a terrible coach when it came to game day preparation and how he related to his players ( which is why he lost too many good recruits prematurely). He was not an outstanding recruiter but I wouldn't say that was his weakness.

We better win 5 games. We better win both DII games, Savannah State, and at least two Big South games. I'm sure the players will tell you that is the very bottom when it comes to acceptable.

Definately agree with that statement. 5 or 6 wins would be the bare minimum of acceptablity.

To keep the fan enthusiam chugging along, it would seem that at least a game over .500 would be necessary this year.
