I agree if Liberty wants to compete with the likes of BYU (Already paying millions for players) they need to step up and offer the money because we all know we have the resources.

Looking at TJ’s X account it seems a lot of Florida and Ohio State coaches are following him. I’m not saying he’s going there.
Majority of Liberty players?
ballah09 do you really think the majority of Liberty players that came here out of HS has an agent kids like Bush? IMO the ones that LU poached from another school probably has an agent, since they were not being trained for champions at previous school. Most parents of these kids IMO believe in Liberty to have the son/daughter athletic best interest at heart. Just another LU Armchair coach with a thought.

JK37 wrote: April 15th, 2025, 7:35 am We’re not going backwards on NIL. But we can regulate it. Union + Collective Bargaining Agreement. Get everything out in the open. It’s been “pro” for awhile now, just with the employees losing all their rights and agreeing with what amounts to indentured servitude.

Let’s finally call it what it is and properly regulate it. Caps. Contracts. Full awareness of market rates. Penalties for tampering. Treat it all like a pro league, because that’s what it is.

The Alabama’s and Ohio States (and Middle Tennessee women’s basketball) have been doing all this for decades under the table. We have a chance now to bring it all out into the light and make it fair. For everyone.
I like Jay Bilas idea of going to 3 year guaranteed contracts with buyout clause’s similar to what coaches have. Players can transfer but the player would have to buy out their contract. Or vice versa. It’s a great framework to get this NIL under control
I’d definitely like to see something like this. It would discourage players from transferring for marginal increases in pay and schools would at least get something for identifying and developing players that eventually get poached by the big boys.
I think it would restore a lot of sanity to college athletics. In basketball terms now that Freshman who was 8 or 9 on the depth chart would be motivated to stay and improve. The coaching staff would be rewarded for player development And if a player does want to jump ship there’d need to be a lot more thought given than now.
It will be good for college basketball because now you’d be able to follow the development of players on ‘your’ team. Imagine if Flagg and Knipp were at Duke for 3 years? They’d be household names
It would be good for the NBA. I watched about a quarter of the ‘play in’ game between Orlando and Atlanta. I recognized maybe 5 names. Imagine the brand (not to mention skills) these kids would build in college. Garner a huge following that translates professionally. If they want to go pro early, fine. They pay their buyout and everyone is happy
It would bring a semblance of ‘student’ back to student athletes. As it stands now these players lose so many credits when transferring they aren’t even close to a degree. Conversely you look at kids who stay at one school get their degrees early and work on their graduate degrees.
It’s a win/win for everyone

Signing recruits out of high school and developing them is becoming a thing of the past, because of the stupid transfer portal. I know a player who signed out of high school, worked hard and basically sit the bench freshman year. As a sophomore was in line to start. But a transfer showed up during off season with just about same talent, or maybe a tad less. the high school recruit was back on the bench.
I recall LU baseball losing 2 good players, before they got to campus because a transfer came in at their position.

A coach’s livelihood depends on winning. They’ll do whatever it takes to win.

And the potential for quick turnarounds has only amped up the pressure. Coaches used to get five years, now it’s 2-3.

 I would think his success, especially undefeated regular season and conference championship, has bought him a good bit more time than that. I believe JK was talking coaching in general.

Not really. About 7% of the entire roster has gone portaling. Not much. Less than most. Also significantly less than the 33% of the MBB roster that went into the portal.

33%>7% but football has 2 portals with way more players. What was the all together total of the 2 portals for football. Also I think I was reading in a previous post that we was thinking spring players that would go so called portaling would be ones that would want to play but not be one that would be first string let along an all American

I’m more surprised by who doesn’t go in the portal than who does. That goes for any school. Players getting paid.

Surprised? As much as you are around some of these players I think you would know which players want to be here and the ones you would shake your head and ask why did they leave money or something else.

So when these kids stay 4 years + at Liberty that surprises you?

It’s not always about the money most on here thinks it is but when they do leave they do get paid that’s a fact.

Am I the only one concerned right now? We’ve lost our best defender (maybe Green is better, in fairness) and we haven’t done much of anything that I can see.

No. I'm not concerned. I have seen offers being made on X since last week for DE/Edge and DL. We are actively pursuing several targets.

TJ Bush is a loss, but there's talent behind him like Bryson Jennings. Our LB corps will be even better, and our defensive backfield has plenty of experience still.

Arguably, the DL is the most important group on the team. I hope we can get someone who can minimize the loss of Bush. He was a special player.
