I know this doesn't relate to LU Academics but the VMI game this year falls during College For a Weekend so maybe we can pack the place out and really show those boys what a loud stadium should sound like

Um, BJ, VMI's students are 2-3 times louder than LU's and there's less of them.

Well maybe now that the kids are more excited about the football program that will at least change for the football game (the basketball games...well we shall see)

If you've never been, you need to go to a football game AT VMI. Just to watch the cadets and how coordinated they are with everything is something that's awesome in and of itself. They'll be here next year, they'll be as loud as us and probably more coordinated. It's called tradition. They've got it, we're working on it.

they are cadets of course they are more coordinated then us....but the change in the football atmosphere has been great and its only going to get better....thats all that matters really...

i think SJ and BJ hate eachother....

No, I was just pointing out that it's worth the drive to Lexington just to watch them at a game. I loved it. Of course, us running down their throat helped too.

That and I hate that our students hear a chant and think, "Oh, that's dumb, it should be this" or "They should change that word to this" and don't join in. Or they make noise when we have the ball and it's third down. Or they don't agree that we should say "First down" after the PA announcer because they think it's dumb and they should do something else. Or we have different "groups" that feel like they have to try to out-do each other and they don't go along with each other at all.

Sorry, rant over.

oh i know...i agree with you....but the atmosphere is so much different and better then when i first got here....VMI has great tradition...you're right...i am not sure if LU will quite get to that point because of how unique military schools are in general...things will continue to improve...i am sure 20 years from now when we visit LU for a football game we will be shocked at how much it has changed for the better

and BJ I was half joking....

I'm sure they haven't had football that long.

After 30 years, you'd think we'd have some type of tradition.

Tradition only happens when people begin to take pride in their campus and school...until this decade, Liberty was mostly a hodgepodge of "temporary" buildings with a bad football team and extremely strict rules. Not something I'd take much pride in...but now, as the campus starts looking better and our sports teams start performing better and our name gets out there more for other things (i.e. that dude winning the Superbowl commercial contest), then more people will start taking pride and establish traditions.

The most coordinated I've ever seen the Liberty body be though was LU v. High Point in 2004 at the men's bball championship...SJ, you would've loved it.

Things don't have to be coordinated, kids just have to cooperate. The best chants start because something happened on the field. Our kids just have to think of it themselves or they're not going to do it.

atrain, you should take pride in your campus regardless. SJ is right though, a military atmosphere is awesome. when VMI and The Citadel paly for the silver shako it is pretty awesome, and of course an army/navy game is a true spectacle. LU is getting there...it will just take time! it is already better than it was!

I agree, Smooth.

Granted, on the field, we haven't had much to take pride over in along time. Sure, the campus isn't the most visually pleasing but it sure isn't the worst in the world. There is a lot to be proud of in this school. The good comes with the bad.

As long as we can keep saying that year after year, we'll be in good shape.

We're getting there guys. It takes time. We need to have a winning team on the field for several years in a row to get the students where they "think" we are good.

Note: that last sentence has nothing to do with how good we really are, but how the average student perceives us to be.

I didn't say I didn't have pride in it, I'm just saying we lack traditions b/c a lot of students in the past didn't...most were apathetic.

This may get Scar going, but I miss the tradition of throwing dozens of full rolls of toilet paper after the first made basket in the LU gym. While I never threw a roll personally, I nevertheless enjoyed watching them go airborn after a made bucket. Play Basketball
