Coastal Carolina's Koegel Named To I-AA Football Selection Committee

Coastal Carolina University Media Relations, John Martin

CONWAY, SC - Coastal Carolina Athletic Director Warren "Moose" Koegel has been named to the NCAA's I-AA Football Selection Committee. He is the first representative from a school without an automatic bid to the I-AA Playoffs to hold a seat on the committee that decides the eight "at-large" teams for postseason play, as well as the matchups for all 16 teams. His appointment is for four years, through 2010.

"This is a great honor for Coastal and the Big South to be on this committee," Koegel said. "I look forward to working with the NCAA and the other representatives to enhance the great game of college football."

Koegel is in his sixth year as the AD at Coastal, where the program has captured the Big South Conference's prestigious George F. "Buddy" Sasser Cup three times, including their second consecutive award in 2004-05, awarded annually to the top athletic department in the Big South Conference. In addition to the work in their sport, Coastal’s almost 400 student-athletes combined for just under a 3.0 grade point average during the 2004-05 academic year.

The most recent addition to Coastal's 17-sport lineup, football, has been solid on the I-AA level. The Chanticleers have amassed a 25-8 record in three years, two conference titles and finished the season ranked in the top-25 of several national polls the last two seasons.

Koegel came to Coastal Carolina from the University of Tennessee at Chattanoga, where he had served as an associate athletic director from 1998-2000. At Chattanooga, Koegel helped manage a $5.2 million budget for 16 NCAA Division I sports. His other administrative responsibilities included business operations, athletic scholarships, marketing and serving as the liaison to the coaching staff. He also served on the steering committee for the NCAA I-AA National Championship Football Game.

Prior to his stint at Chattanooga, he had served on the football coaching staffs at the University of Connecticut, Rutgers University and the University of Wyoming. During his tenure on the football coaching staff at the University of Connecticut from 1992 to 1997, he was recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach as well as interim head coach in 1993. Koegel was an assistant football coach at Rutgers University from 1984 to 1990 and Wyoming University from 1977 to 1983.
