I really like the idea of the ring of honor, but I think it is different from a Hall of Fame. I look at is at the old MVP vs. MOP debate. I think a ring of honor would do just that...honor those that were at Liberty and either did something great during thier time at LU or even after (Gado being the prime example). A LU Hall of Fame would honor those with outstanding careers while at LU.

Something like a rock at clemson for player to touch as they run onto the field. Lets see, we are the flames. How about a bed of coal, they can run across on the way to the field?
We can call it our ring of fire!! And play Johnny Cash's hit as they run onto the field.

A Ring of Honor allows for players that have made it to a further level of athletics and/or played a vital roll in advancing the athletic program during his, or her, time here at Liberty. The character debate has been a can of worms for years. Does a great player, ala Pete Rose with serious baggage, deserve to go in the HOF because of his time on the field? or does his colorful past exclude him from the hall?

Tough call.

Great Ideas, but I do think you have to be very carefull. The people that would go into this will become a face to the program. And while Eric Green was a great football player - do you want someone who was suspended in college and in the pros for problems. I am not sure he is the face you want representing LU.

Throwing this out there - do you think that the reason there is nothing like this, is just for the reasons we are discussing. Nobody wants to make the call on who should/not be in this ring of honor? The only thing of this nature that I can think of is I believe that WBB has a WBB hall of fame. Do any of the other sports have anything similar?
