Excellent post, Sly.

Things happen. We all have lapses in judgment and discernment and while those things are forgiven, you are still held responsible for your actions. Here at LU, we have a higher standard to uphold. If a student were to do that in the stands or in the parking lot, it's automatically 12 reps and a min. $50 fine.

Sometime we have to step back and realize football is just a game. While we're trying to put together a program that wins, we're still trying to train these men to be men of integrity and noble character. I think it's honorable of Dickerson to apoligize and miss the opening series, or what not. He's being responsible for his actions.

Again, I don't know if I'm the only one who buys into the concept of building men of character or not, but I think Rocco has done a FINE job at turning around that aspect of this football program.

Thank you Sly. After reviewing the posts on this unfortunate subject yours was probably the most fair. I bought into this "young champions for Christ" over 25 years ago. I desire an excellent school and sports program as much as anyone. I want to win as much as anyone - but not at all costs. I'm like Bobby Knight - if you win and don't do it the right way it doesn't count. Bens performance isn't always the best but his character is. "THE PICTURE" says what words can not. My heart aches for all the guys that are trying. Go Flames.

Honestly, I can't even believe we are bringing up this topic. Does the player in question have a chronic Bobby Knight mouth, or this just one of those occassions that everyone caught. I hate cursing as much as the next guy and when it comes down to it, I'm very legalistic. But if we think LU's athletes are not going to curse, we're living in fantasy land. LU doesn't recruit role model Christian athletes---at least in large number. They're just aren't that many out there that can perform at the Division I level. If there were, I'm sure we would make an effort to recruit them.

Sly's comments are right on, but this behavior shouldn't suprise anyone.

Well if Rocco is doing the aboved mentioned penalty then Kudos for him. I have been known from time to time to swear like a drunken sailor, but it is a lot more curbed now. Probably b/c Mrs Purple could kick M-F-A!!
KUDOS to Rocco.
