Wow, doc!!! I'm impressed. Please remind me again of what you're shooting with these days. What lens were you mainly using for the game today?

Doc, I saw you, but didn't yell or anything.

As for the kicking, the two that were blocked and one that was tipped were VERY low kicks. The rest, that he made, were very high kicks that no one could've blocked.

After the first drive, our defense was great. Vince's interception was awesome. He deserved that and was simply throwing kids off as they were trying to tackle.

Brock looked very good. He didn't make any bad decisions, and only had a couple bad passes.

Chuck D played GREAT in place of Kent. I called that one.

I love how enthusiastic our coaches on the sidelines. Anytime the special teams did something good, Coach Wilt went running to the player to congratulate him. Coach Wimberly was enthusiastic with the defense on the sidelines as well.

Can't really complain about anything this game except the dumb penalties in the first half.

We're back in Spartanburg now, back to Lynchburg tomorrow.

Just got in from Charleston. Great day for the Flames to say the least.

After the first quarter slow start by the defense, the team looked great.

The offense really seemed to run the ball at will. CSU just couldn't contain our backfield.

Kudo's to Brock, he had a good game. His completion percentage would have been better if it weren't for at least three passes that our receivers couldn't catch when the ball hit them in the numbers. Rocco really went off on the receivers on the sideline after about the third dropped pass. They deserved that.

SJ was right about Noah. CSU only blocked the kicks because the kidk was so low. I'm not so sure the first one didn't hit the center in the butt. However, the rest of his kicks were right on.

Good to see Zack back in action. He definitely adds another dimension to our backfield. I agree with others that his presence helps to open up our options. It will be good to have him back full time soon.

Great game today. Hope to see some of you guys next week in Lynchburg.

Goooooooooo Flames!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your comments.

I picked up a 300mm f4.0L for use omn Saturdays--college ball. I use it on a Canon 20D with a monopod. On my shoulder I sling a Canon 5D (my baby) with either a 24-70mm f2.8L or 70-200 f2.8L (usually alternate those--today mostly used the 70-200).

These are L-series pro-level lenses which are really good. The 300 is great but when the action goes past you or if it's close to the sidelines, it's hard to follow and focus. The 70-200 is tack sharp and one of the best lenses canon makes, but I usually have to crop and enlarge in post-processing with photoshop. The wide angle 24-70mm I usually use for story-telling shots and it lends itself well to black and white. The shot in my avatar is from last year when the Bucs beat Citadel--it's the post-game team prayer with the scoreboard in the background and the school co-opted it and made t-shirts and 4 foot posters out of it ("Believe")--that was the 24-70mm.

For Friday nights (high school) the 300 f4.0 is too "slow"--it's too dark, so I have to go with the faster lenses and higher ISOs/more grain, especially when I have to crop (most shots from Friday night games). Here's my High school site--heavy on the Summerville pics, the best team in these parts with players signed to South Carolina and a phenom WR to Georgia:

www.ChucktownPrepSports.com

I might have a couple more LU pics in here somewhere, but I wanted to get those up while it was fresh. There weren't many highlights from the CSU side.

Here is the recap from the SIDs:
Liberty Scores 40-Unanswered Points to Roll Past Charleston Southern, 50-10

October 20, 2007
Charleston, S.C.

Box Score

Charleston Southern and Liberty traded points early on, but the Flames scored 40-consecutive points en route to a convincing 50-10 Big South opening victory over Charleston Southern, Saturday afternoon at CSU Stadium.

The win pushes Liberty’s record to 4-3 on the year and 1-0 in Big South play. The 40-point triumph was the largest margin of victory by the Flames in a conference game, surpassing Liberty 28-point win, 34-6, over Charleston Southern in 2004.

While we are waiting on the web guys to post Chris' story on the victory, here is a tease from his blog:
– Chris Lang

Definitely the most complete effort I’ve seen out of a Flames team against a full-scholarship Division I team during my two-plus years on the beat. The second half showing was impressive, with LU outscoring the Bucs 30-0 after the break.

Look for the full breakdown in tomorrow’s News & Advance, plus notes on Chuck Duffey’s breakout game, the emergence of tight end Chris Luck and kicker Noah Greenbaum’s trouble with the tricky sandy field at CSU.

LU has scored at least 30 points in all but one game this year (14 vs Elon) and has scored at least 40 points 3 times (going 2-1 in those games with wins over CSU and St Francis and a loss in double OT to W&M)

Don't think I didn't think the same thing when I saw em.

We're just waking up right now. We've gotta seran wrap the girls' car (they just left for a golf tournament, leaving us in their apartment, so we're leaving them with a, um, "thank you" gift) and then we'll be on our way back to Lynchburg. By-far the most fun road trip of the year, thanks in part mainly to the win. Winning makes driving so much more fun.

Brock only had a couple of bad passes, he really did a good job, receivers dropped some beauties, holdingcalls woudl cost the game if it were close.
The CCU radio announcers were calling Brock the next Elway when he kept drawing them off-sides.
Those announcers oh my goodness, they did everything but cry....

I don't normally post in the postmortem.....but I talked to Noah about what the problem was and he mentioned the sand was such a huge factorand that he just couldn't get it up...I went on the field after the game and in between the hashes there was alot of sand espically on the end of the field that is closest to there gym....I don't think it's a problem to worry about but Coach Wilt said that they will look at the film today to see if there where any blocking in the middle...

And finally the wrapup from Chris:
Flames flog Buccaneers

By Chris Lang
Lynchburg News & Advance
October 21, 2007

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Liberty cornerback Chuck Duffey had his hand on the ball.

In fact, he tipped it right into the hands of Charleston Southern receiver Dee Brown. With the corners and linebackers converging on the ball, Brown only had to outrace Pat Dickerson 62 yards for a touchdown on the second play of the game Saturday.

But there was no sense of "ugh, this again?" on the LU sideline.

"We weren't discouraged at all," Duffey said.

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Liberty ran a lot of plays at practice this week trying to incorporate tight end Chris Luck into the offense. In the season's first six games, he had just two catches for 15 yards. Saturday at Charleston Southern, he caught two passes for 34 yards and his first touchdown of the season.

Liberty 50, Charleston Southern 10

Preseason Big South Conference favorite Liberty rolled into Charleston on Saturday looking to prove they were a worthy pick as league champion. The Flames put together an impressive second half and rolled past Charleston Southern, 50-10, ending the Buccaneers' 12-game home winning streak.

Liberty, the top scoring and rushing offense in the league, rolled up 283 yards on the ground and 491 total offense. The Flames (4-3, 1-0 Big South) averaged 7.1 yards per play and did not turn the ball over.

Charleston Southern (3-4, 0-1 Big South) turned the ball over five times, leading to three Liberty touchdown drives of less than 30 yards.

The field goal that was "blocked" actually hit Marshal Ausberry in the head. Our intramural fields are in better condition than their football field, and I'm not even exaggerating.

Good to hear Brock had a good day despite recievers drop/penalties/getting off to a slow start in the 3rd.
Most impressed with the fact that after giving up points, we made the adjustments we needed to on D to stop them.
Sounds like were in good shape for the rest of the season if we play like we did.
Anyone know if Presby has ever played infront of 20000?

We will be the biggest, loudest, and most hostile crowd PC has every played in front of. It's not that they've never played in front of 16-20,000 before, it's that they've never played with 8000 students directly behind them.

sorry I missed the whole game, but really glad to hear we made some changes that worked, and GREAT to see Luck get involved in the offensive scheme.

(we all know my feelings on a big tight end with hands- no need to repeat myself)

Thanks for the updates for those that were there. I was moving all weekend and unable to catch the game. Sounds like we played real well. Can't wait to get back to the Bill this weekend! I'm glad PC beat Coastal, our guys will be ready to play to let them know who the boss of the big south is.
