Crunchy must have been too big a word for the kid behind the counter to remember.
Here's a true story. I was standing in line at a Taco Bell in Franklin, NC (which is just across the holler from Cullowhee and Western Carolina University, by the way) and I noticed that the kid behind the counter had a very unusual name on his name tag. At first, I thought it was just something he had simply made up so I half-jokingly asked him how he pronounced the word. To my surprise, he told me. It seems that when he was born his mother had named him after each of her three brothers whose names were Carl, Dave and Eric. The end result? Cadaveric. It also seems that cadaveric is a real word that means "of or relating to a cadaver or corpse".
