If he does indeed drop out my guess is that there was some sort of deal cut that if McCain wins the Presidency, Romney will be assured a place in the Adminsitration. It does not make sense why after claiming time and time again that he will not give up that he would suddenly decide to call it. I think this is a move by the party to show some unity and try and sell McCain as the Nominee while the Dems fight it out for the next 4 months.

If vwr is right...then this is a VERY GOOD MOVE. Have a chance to mend fences and rally the troops around McCain.

Considering his Super Tuesday night speech about how the results were encouraging enough to him to stay in the race, if he does drop out you would have to assume that a deal has to be in place. Mitt has invested too much of his own money to walk now without something under the surface.

I was listening to the radio and FoxNews said if this is true That leaves only 2 candidates left, McCain and Huckabee. Who knows what's wrong with that statement? Someone will tell you on Friday.

WASHINGTON - John McCain effectively sealed the Republican presidential nomination on Thursday as chief rival Mitt Romney suspended his faltering presidential campaign. "I must now stand aside, for our party and our country," Romney prepared to tell conservatives.

"If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror," Romney will say at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.

"This is not an easy decision for me. I hate to lose. My family, my friends and our supporters... many of you right here in this room... have given a great deal to get me where I have a shot at becoming President. If this were only about me, I would go on. But I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America."

Shades of Reagan in 1976. If you're watching his speech to the Conservatives... Mitt is really rockin' it.

Shame he's a Mormon.

He just announced at CPAC. Said if he remained in the race, Hillary or Barack would win, and he can't let that happen in light of the war.

I'm going to sound like a drum, but it is sounding more and more that McCain won't win. I think Obama is going to win this thing. Obama is easily raising HUGE money, while Clinton is borrowing $5 million from herself. The future states seem to highly favor Obama.

If Obama is nominated, the game is over. The Dems know it, and so does the GOP. There is not much to hammer the guy on compared to McCain and Hillary. Obama is MUCH more dangerous than Hillary IMO. Hillary is always going to have people fighting her. No one knows Obama, and any attack on him will not be viewed favorably from most people. Obama is very liberal and will be popular enough to pass some damaging legislation IMO.

I disagree Obama is beatable, you don't have to attack him, just point to his record. Oh wait what record. So let me get this right America, you would feel safer at night sleeping knowing Obama is on watch againist terrorist attacks, versus McCain. Lets see, four years in the senate for Obama vs McCain's years.

Electing a Dem...this time around might be the medicine that this country and economy need to "right" itself. I was around for the Republican revolution in 94. I can see that happening again if we stick to our ideals and pray. I can see it happening as if it's already been done before.

I agree with the sentiment, but Obama is beatable. Once you attack his record, you'll chip away at his support.

The only way Obama wins is through the so-called Super Delegates, during the convention. These guys are the party leaders. So -- that means that the "candidate of change" wins by sucking up to the political machine. Meaning -- politics the same. People will be smart enough to realize this.

Also -- latinos don't want to vote for an african-america... and they'll be more than willing to vote for Mccain, who's weak on immigration reform -- and polls show have him as the only one who can beat the Dems.

Obama will be a disaster as President, but his victory (at least in 2008) is no sure thing. What he should do is bow out gracefully (although the time for that may have passed), run for governor of Illinois in 2010 -- and position himself to be the presidential candidate in 2016.

What, not wanting a wolf in sheep's clothing? We've had one of those for 8 years. The only difference between McCain and Clinton or Obama is that he's a sail boat sailing towards the left and they are a Cigarette boat. Both end up in the same place, one just takes us there slowly and numbs us to his liberal leanings. I'm not a lemming or a sheep and I don't have to follow him blindly! He may do or say something between now and November to bring me along, but he may not. I may run as a 3rd party candidate.

It's called sdanding firmly for what you believe. I don't find anything wrong with that. If you wan a candidate who thinks raising taxes can be good, who wants illegal amnesty, who thinks abortion can be OK in certain situations, who will not protect Marriage, who will increase spending even further that Bush has, and who will yell and scream and throw fits if he doesn't get his way - then McCain is YOUR man!

He'll do fine.

He has an 83% rating as a conservative. Once in a blue moon he sides with the Dems.

He may not be the most ideal canidate, but he's definetely conservative.

Yes, but those "blue moons" happen to be in the 17 percent of issues that actually matter. I don't care that Mccain's conservative on issues like "naming a post office after Sen. Robert Byrd"

I just saw him speak and I think it's the first time I've ever heard him even claim to be a conservative. What a joke! Anyone who wants illegal amnesty is not a conservative.
