I thought you all might like to see the trailer for Evan Almighty - due out in June 07. My wife and I were extras (along with about 500+ other people) for the movie as it was being filmed in Crozet - that's where the ark was built - about 15 minutes from C'ville. We were only able to do it for a couple of days but it was a blast. Some of our friends made a career out of it. Tom Shadyac is one of the nicest guys around (he's a UVA grad and a Christian - see Christianity Today Movies for an interview with him and also Steve Odekirk who wrote Bruce and Evan). He was back here for the VA Film festival and showed the 'world premier" of the trailer and then answered questions about Evan and Bruce - there was a screening of Bruce Almighty as a part of the festival but it was more of an excuse to premier the trailer. Evan is supposed to be even more family friendly than Bruce. Enjoy the clip - that's my wife drinking a cup of something with Evan in the last clip of the trailer - she's the "person" the right.

A couple of stories about Tom - while filming in Waynesboro he went into a bike shop that he learned from the manager that business wasn't so good and he was about to go under. Tom gave the crew the option to purchase a bike at his expense. They bought 400 bikes. The crew rode them around the set. Tom also sells bottled water with the profits going to a variety of charities (http://htoo.com/founder.php). While I was at the screening someone was saying that a reference librarian had recognized that the homeless were using the library during the day time to read and get out of the weather. So he had an idea about starting a day center for the homeless. He enlisted Tom in the project and he helped him purchase a church in the downtown area to use for this purpose. Of course Tom does have a little cash on hand since he's responsible for Ace Ventura, Liar,Liar, Patch Adams, Bruce Almighty, Dr. Doolittle and a few more.
