Wow, I didn't see that connection. His name doesn't ring a bell to me at all.

There have been several in between Lynchburg, Bedford and Charlottesville over the past few years.

I wonder if this guy could have been involved in the young couple from Lynchburg on VT a couple of years ago?

Anyone remember him? I was living on campus from 1999-2002 and he looks vaguely familiar. Anyone have any info on his major or where he lived while at LU?

From what I remember, he was a kind and helpful young man. He hung around and helped out at the check-in table just before training camp started my first year there. He was very helpful and very friendly. Was saddened to hear that he wasn't returning after break that year I believe. I often thought about whatever happened to him. I'm saddened even more over this event

That was a totally different type of situation. Doesn't seem likely.

If he is somehow connected to the alexis Murphy case, I bet Randy Taylor's attorneys will be on it like sharks on a sunken ship carrying steaks

Is that necessary?

I know he ran from police recently. Was that on Tuesday? If so, that would have meant that he would have literally driven all night to get to Galveston. Also, isn't Galveston basically an island really close to Houston?

Yeah, it is on an island just southeast of Houston near my parents' house. It is also where we signed T.J. Avery this past seasonin football. I have driven the Lynchburg-to-Galveston County run straight through a few years ago. It is exhausting.

He was arrested sometime on Wednesday, I believe.

They found him camping out on a beach in Galveston. Heading for the border, maybe?

It's pretty impressive that they found him. It's getting harder to be a fugitive these days.

I was called by Inside Edition to field produce the arraignment this morning in Galveston but was too slow to call back while getting the kids' started on their schoolwork. Sad story all the way around.

Along the Gulf Coast in Texas, there are plenty of parks where you can park your car and camp out on the beach. But I agree that it is amazing that he was found there.

The Daily Beast is using this tragedy to somehow blame LU for this whole thing occurring ...
The Daily Beast wrote:But there is another question that can only be answered by another young woman who attended another Virginia university in another city.

That young woman is the one who accused Matthew of raping her a dozen years ago at the sports arena at Liberty University in Lynchburg. The question is why she then decided to not to press charges.

Not that the student in this 2002 case should bear any responsibility for anything Matthew might have gone on to do. She was a rape victim in the all-too-common situation where the perpetrator insists the sex was consensual and there are no independent witnesses or conclusive physical evidence to challenge him. A trial would come down to “she said, he said.”

But you can point an accusatory finger somewhere: At Liberty University for creating an atmosphere in which consensual sex and sexual assault were considered equally serious offenses. A defense attorney would be able to suggest a rape victim at Liberty was lying because she risked being suspended or even expelled if she admitted to consensual sex.

That's just stupid. I assume this guy was probably a nut case before he got to Liberty, and even if he wasn't, my educated guess is that going to Liberty didn't turn him in to one.
