So anybody understand what these guys are trying to prove/achieve? I don't get it but it's starting to spread kinda like hippies

Seems to be a socialist type movement to me, but I am not completely sure. They are doing it in Tampa today and "anonymous" claims if the Tampa police become violent they will bring the whole dept. to its knees...

I guess instead of looking for work the unemployed would rather yell about how the government should be giving THEM money

Yeah a lot of the articles I've read say they are protesting the economy. How do you protest the economy?

We've already seen what happens when you have unpaid benefits for too long you turn into Greece.

I don't think that's really the point. From what I can tell these guys are mad at Reps and Dems. Part of their virus has spread to K street too. I'm sure some of them are Democrats so if that makes you feel better than you're in luck.

I think they are angry at the same thing we all are angry at, but their conclusions on how to solve it are so vastly different then anything I want to see happen.

My brother is a proud member of the 99%. He said it's much more economical that political. They are mad at the whole "rich get richer" while the "poor get poorer." It's about our country's unemployment, underemployment, and the massive student loans that are coming due after college, especially if people have no jobs.

Yeah, I have been watching this with a cynical eye but what CJ wrote fits in with everything I have heard from these folks. Frankly they don't seem to have anybody speaking centrally from the movement but they do have a bunch of profs trying to explain tot he rest of us why we don't get this movement.

Right now it just looks like a fun way to feel like they are part of something ... what the something is remains rather irrelevant. They just are having a blast.

And it's not just a 20- or 30-something movement. My brother is in his 40s and has an English degree from Cal-Berkeley, and his last 2 jobs have been selling paint at Wal-Mart and Lowes.

Just an FYI man Walmart's taxes paid looked like this most recently in 2009
U.S. federal: $5.3 billion
U.S. state and local: $677 million
International: $1.1 billion

Also love that it's some student complaining while he most likely is part of the 47% of tax filers who don't pay any income taxes. Where's his mom that he's talking about? Probably at work so she can provide for her concerned son's needs.

Even if this were true, who do you think would pay for Walmart's corporate taxes genius? They would reduce the CEO's salary to pay the extra taxes right!?! Apparently they don't teach even the most basic of business at Pace University.

This country is screwed. I can't say what I really think of these scum, let's just say I hope they go away. And by that, I mean force. If you're gonna come disrupt our nation and break and trash things, and better yet, refuse to take a shower at least one a day, then yeah, sorry if somebody shows up and blasts you away.

this is basically protesters who don't understand tax codes and have nothing else better to do. at least they are outside and getting exercise, i'm sure their mothers are happy.

Ok from one of my sources @themotleyfool the problem is just corporate america (props to CJ)

Among other things they are upset about student loans being so high (cuz education itself is a human right now (i didn't know that (learn something new everyday (thats4)))), mortage crisis (banks forclosing unfairly on homeowners), Goldman Sachs in general (specifically bailout then bonuses, didn't mention that bailout loan was repayed with interest), and that companies don't like unions (I guess they are suposed to be in favor of them).
