The plan is to give Gregg the commerce secretary spot and replace him with a Democrat posing as a Republican, thus the Rats get their magic "60" after they complete the theft of the Minnesota Senate Seat and seat that perverted weasel Al Franken.

I can't believe that Gregg is going along with this nonsense.

I can only imagine the garbage that they are going to push on us since they don't have to worry about the filibuster anymore.

Did you read the article? It even says in the title that wouldn't happen.

However if it did they'd pass wacky stuff while digging their own grave. Hopefully the country would still exist in the mean time.

Edit: No need for me to rant all night about this. If I am the only one who thinks guns crossed in the foreground of God's word is an issue, then maybe I'm just nuts. I bitterly cling to the word of God being the best weapon there is, says so right in Ephesians. God is in control, hopefully we can try and get out of His way and let Him work.

The world according to Makarov in 4 years:
No law abiding citizen owns a gun so the entire nation is like Gotham City, pre-Batman. Homosexuals get married, causing fire and brimstone to be rained down from heaven, and there will be more gay people b/c allowing gay marriage and gays to adopt will turn people gay just like hanging around giraffes will make PAMedic taller. Oh, and the sky is falling as well

I have to agree with you lefty. While I am an ardent supporter of the Second Amendment, it is actions like that that make it hard for people to be taken seriously. I am a firm believer that if we as Christians are living our lives as God wants us to, that is living a life of love, we will be more successful in our agenda. At risk of sounding cliche, change is not going to come from the elected but rather from the electorate. Bonnie Newman is getting appointed is not going to change much of anything. God is still in control and will continue to allow things to happen according to His will.

It's a joke. Remember Obama said folks were still bitterly clinging to their guns and their religion? That is disgusting. The graphic is poking fun at that. He's saying he's one of those people Obama was talking about. How is that in anyway offensive? How did I even have to explain that?

Because I had never heard Obama say that...

And I think the guys posts influence how I feel about his avatar, too. A large amount of frustration.

I tried to avoid news and talk radio during the whole Obama frenzy. I literally only watched Food Network and ESPN, with some Law and Order and Scrubs mixed in. I knew what was going to happen and didn't need to hear all about it.

Why can't Republicans learn to play hardball? Why can't Republicans stand up to the Democrat machine? It isn't hard. Grow a spine and do what is right. :x

Bonnie Newman is Lincoln Chafee in a skirt. She'll vote with the rats on all the important issues and will likely not support filibusters. How Gregg can let this happen is beyond comprehension.

We need more people like Jesse Helms and less people who will compromise.

Compromising when facing opponents who want to slit your throat is not an option. Jesse Helms understood that. The left absolutely hated him with a passion, yet they couldn't beat him. He stood for something and it paid off.

Will the next Jesse please stand up?
I'd say Jesse Helms was a joke, but he was far worse than that. The guy built his career on racial hatred. To say that "he stood for something and it paid off" is flat-out irresponsible. He stood for segregation and inequality. Thankfully, that did not pay off. LU should be disgraced that this man's name is on one of its schools.

This whole topic about Gregg is rather disturbing. You say he needs to stand up to the Democratic machine, which means that you are obviously missing a grander point -- if the President of the United States asks you personally to serve, there is no other answer than 'yes'. It's your duty as an American. I may not agree with his decision, but I'm not going to say to the President that I know how to lead the country better than he.

Can someone more familiar with our department at LU tell me why we did name something after him? I know nothing about him or what he has done (good or bad). Basically I'm asking what our connection is or why we chose to do it.

Ed, you are letting your "Political Poster of the Year" go to your head. Jesse Helms was a good man. He was not perfect and but he was on the correct side of the argument the majority of the time. YOUR statements about him are disgraceful. The school honored him with his name on the school of government for his core conservative principles. Don't make it more than that. If you hope to have a future in politics (which you hint at frequently), you need to let race issues go.

Concerning Gregg's appointment, when the President of the United States wants to use you as a tool, you say no. One has the right to make a choice, but stating it as duty is wrong. It's that simple.

As for Helms, he was no different in his racial ignorance than most all of his contemporaries. He just outlived them and served in the senate decades beyond most of them. He admitted his mistakes late in his career and he did hold true to fiscal and social positions at times when it wasn't politically expedient. From the outside looking in, he didn't come across as a very likable person (especially in light of his daughter that we learned about postmortem). But Doc knew him well and felt compelled to honor him in this way. So I'll defer my judgement as a result.
