I would have loved to have seen McCain say something like this in his openning statement:

"I encourage all viewers to keep a count of how many times Senator Obama says the words 'George Bush' tonight. My name is John McCain and I make my own decisions. Sometimes they are in line with my party, sometimes they are not. I am a proven leader and I am the most qualified to lead this country."

It would have been fun to see if Obama would have stuck with the plan to bring W's name up every 30 seconds had that taken place.

I would have liked to have seen McCain look Obama in the eye and be forcefull instead of slouching over the podium. I was grading some tests during the debate and while I was simply listening, McCain seemed to be hammering him, but if I looked at the TV, he seemed uncomfortable.

Sure, it's not all about appearances, but it does make a difference with some voters.

Sheehan has helped numerous Democrats learn appropriate body language and mannerisms for television. I agree that neither man probably swayed the undecided significantly. And I agree that McCain's visuals could've been much better. I am sure that those issues will be addressed moving forward. But his rhetoric was very sharp for a man of his advanced years.

I tried to view this as objectively as humanly possible...

I expected Obama to mumble and fumble, but he didn't (except when trying to recall a soldier's name). McCain showed that he is ready to be commander-in-chief on day one with his breadth of knowledge and experience... but ready to lead? He didn't deal any significant blows on a day he should have cleaned up.

If I had to score it, I would say 'tie, which means Obama won because McCain needed a knockout... but then again, the biggest dust-up concerned Henry Kissinger, who later sided with McCain... so a point goes to McCain -- which ultimately means a tie.'

Now the veep debate... that's going to be a fun one.

It was a tie in my book as well. I don't think JM looked at BO due to the fact he probably hates his guts and wants to beat him to a pulp! It amazes me that these debates actually sway peoples opinion. There isn't any new revelations in them.

this was a debate that mccain really needed to wipe the floor with obama and he didn't really....i think he won it (the 20 minutes i watched of it anyway, i can't stand being talked down to and i can't bear to watch mccain move his arms like a robot for longer than that) but i dont' think he won it enough so i called it a tie.

It's funny how everybody thinks their guy won. Fox News has McCain winning handily. CNN says Obama won. I caught a little bit of Bill Maher on Friday night and he thinks Obama won by a landslide. Surprising, no. I just wish there was an actual unbiased news source we could trust.

i actually like cnn it leans toward liberalism but isn't horrible and some shows are quite centralized and i like it.
