As for the "Town Hall" debate...

I don't know if it's possible for McCain to salvage this election. Since the stocks crashed, he lost a lot support, and in critical states, too. Real Clear Politics had Obama with a slim 8 point lead in the electoral college projections, now it's 190. States that weren't supposed to be in play (like Indiana and North Carolina) are showing Obama ahead. It might be, and probably is, too much to overcome in less than a month.

That being said...

McCain's performance -- the utter butt-whooping he laid on Obama -- will be enough to stop the bleeding and turn support back to him. The trend-line will start going back in his favor now, 190 electoral votes worth, I don't know, but still.

CBS came out with a poll showing McCain has been tracking better since the VP debate but at this point I'm only hoping he does well enough to give Republicans reason to go and vote for congressmen as we will need as many as possible.

What's up with the opening statement regarding the gov't buying up personal mortgages, changing the interest rate and relieving debt of the owners all about? There weren't a lot of specifics but I believe this belongs in the 40% category I disagree with McCain with.

Well lets see if Obama gets in the office, and the ecomony continue to head south, I see him having to extend the tax cuts that came in during Bush's term. That would be interesting to see him a democrap, doing that. What does everyone else think?

I don't see it happening that way. I see Obama levying taxes on small business owners, the economy slows / crashes, the media blames republicans & bush, and no one has solutions. Oh, and more terrorist attacks.

I agree with Dantes assessment about an Obama's administration but last night I watched an ultra liberal and a moderate try to convince the audience they were going to cut taxes the most, while the conservatives are on the sidelines with their hands in the pockets.

Anyone notice McCain had no response to Obama's charge that the entire econonic mess is due to deregulation, when in fact the insurance and financial services industry is one of the heaviest regulated industries in the country.

I've lost count of how many missed opportunities McCain has had in this whole campaign.

Obama had his AlGore moment, claiming that the government invented the computer. Really?
He also wouldn't admit that there's anything he doesn't know, and also thinks it should be required by law for parents to insure their children (which will eventually force everyone into government-sponsored insurance). And he's finally decided to stop denying that he'd talk directly with the Iranian president. There's more, but it's all very boring.

I think that's what is really causing McCain's lag here.

He's had numerous attempts at a knockout blow and he's fumbled them away. America became too polarized with McCain and really missed it's opportunity at winning this election. I would be inclined to believe that any of a Guiliani, Romney or Huckabee would have given Obama a run for his money. McCain is just slowing down.

New poll by Zogby released today.

Obama 47% - McCain 45%
This represents a bit of a recovery by McCain, who had been sliding in some polls before his running mate, Sarah Palin, put in a strong performance in her one and only debate performance last Thursday.
This stuff is killing me because I was emotionally resigned to the race being over which it probably still is but perhaps there's hope on some level.

I know they were handling out voter registrations last week. I believe the deadline for registering was Monday. I'm sure there will be a big effort but I'm kinda new there. Calvary Monument in Paradise.

Interesting article on Palin vs. Biden, specifically referring to intelligence

Did Biden Get It Wrong? You Betcha

By John R. Lott, Jr.

E-Mail Print Share:

When you interview for a job, here is a hint: make sure you know what the job is. Joe Biden failed that test last Thursday. He couldn’t even get right what a vice president does, but the media didn’t notice.

The media is all over itself about how smart and experienced Biden is. Political analyst Charlie Cook is quoted in the Washington Post on Saturday as saying “Biden is clearly so much more knowledgeable, by a factor of about a million.” Saturday Night Live does a skit about Biden being smart, if slimy. Meanwhile, Governor Sarah Palin is treated as being nothing more than a simpleton.

OUCH!!! I don't know how accurate this really is, but I'm seeing more and more indicators that these last 25 or so days are just a waste of time. Again, I hope not, but I don't think McCain stands a chance in November! (www.electoral-vote.com)

This is encouraging though..............

October 9th, 2004: Kerry 280, Bush 242

Image

October 9th, 2000:
Bush 50%
Gore 42
Nader 4
Buchanan *
An asterisk means that Buchanan is getting less than one-half of one percent.
Sampling error: +/-3.5% pts
Maybe my doom and gloom prediction was a bit premature????

I heard some announce said Gerald Ford was 34 points behind Carter at one time, if I am not mistaken it came down to a close election

belcher, that is one of the most liberal blogs on the net. There is nothing but left-wing spin on that site at all times. It does have nice graphics though, but that's what liberal money will do.

What makes you think that? I've heard both on the right and left praise that site. I believe the website creator is a liberal leaning guy (I've read he admits that on the site), but he goes painstakingly out of his way to be balanced, from what I've heard. Perhaps I've been duped? (wouldn't be the first time)
