You could technically call anything that goes on in any election as "historic" because it is history. Every election shows up in the books. I would say that the GOP's first female vice presidential candidate would qulaify as "historic" in any election...except this one.

So how was McCain? Did he actually bring a message, or did he just talk about character all night? I didn't watch, all the fun happened on the VP night.

If energy is what you need in a speech then this wasnt for you. But he talked about all of his past POW experiences and different things he's done throughout his career (reform, etc) I guess pretty much just guessing that any one thing he can mention is a bonus over Obama and well he named about 100

That's too bad. I was looking more for a platform of ideas, and some direction.

LUCONN- "And I'm sure McCain will pull in 21.5 or something."

Actually....
Barack Obama spoke in a football stadium. John McCain spoke after a football game.
Ratings-wise, both moves were good. But McCain's was bigger.
Last night's McCain speech at the Republican National Convention was watched by nearly 39 million people, Nielsen Media Research said today.
In setting a new decade high for a convention speech, the GOP presidential nominee edged Democratic counterpart Obama (38.4 million), and McCain's suddenly famous running mate, Sarah Palin (37.2 million).

Honestly... I was shocked at those numbers.

The speech itself wasn't inspiring. It wasn't meant to be. There was a lot of meat and potatoes and lots of narrative. Lots of people say they want details but when someone (especially an older man) lays out details it comes across like reading a car manual. People actually just want to drive. I thought McCain did what he had to do. Come out and present himself above the fray so that independents can hear his agenda. The red meat was plenty covered prior to his speech.

The protesters are classless.

Kevin,
My biggest problem with Obama is his voting record. Not WHAT he voted for but the fact he didn't vote. If a person can't make a decision on a zoning law in the state legislature, what gives anyone confidence that he can make a decision, let alone he right decision, if a situation such as Russia invading Ukraine happens? Say what you will at least McCain makes decisions. And if he feels he is wrong will admit it and change course.
The fact that Barry didn't take a side on the small issues (with the exception of the 'it ok to kill an aborted fetus if the procedure is botched and the baby comes out alive" vote) is a HUGE minus in my category.
I will say that his new quote "I have a different view of economics then John McCain" is at least partially true.

Didnt he miss 80% of his votes at one point? I know he was about 20% higher on missed votes then any other Democrat that was running against him

I don't know about his US Senate numbers but his Illinois numbers were awful. He was the King of Present in voting. LOVE Guliani's jab at that "We didn't have that option when I was mayor,, must be nice"

Also, speking of 80%, that is the percentage of times he voted (when he did vote) that he voted WITH GWB. So he voted 80% and McCain 90% hmmmm
