Really looking at the bracket there are a couple interesting matchups:

#5 Virginia Tech vs. #12 Georgia- rematch of 2006 Chick-Fil-A Bowl

#4 USC vs #13 Oregon State- Oregon State ended USC's Pac-10 winning streak last season

#2 LSU vs #15 Tennessee- Rematch of 2007 SEC Championship Game

#8 Hawaii vs #9 Missouri- Matchup of two Heisman finalists at QB

Not I, I believe last year I squarely stated my support for Hokies Football and Basketball. However, if someone wants to pick-and-choose, then they are free to do so (coughcoughTDDancecoughcough)

BJ.....wow how creative???

first the problems are simple to solve......get someone else to help you match up teams

2 Pac 10 teams playing each other in the first round of a playoff....almost a conference Championship (if the Pac 10 had one, kinda like the current BCS)

Same situation with Kansas and OU....almost another conference Championship .....resembles the BCS

LSU v. Tennessee.......that was what the BCS did!!!

Central Florida in over U of F.........WOW! Also I didn't know UCF was better than USF (who put their butts to the wall if I remember correctly)

Also, having OSU as the overall #1 resembles the BCS

Your playoff is basically the same as the BCS...I hope to the Left puts a little more thought in his playoff

Ok first off I admit that my system is not perfect (heck, what system is). Second, I wanted to create as intriguing matchups all the way through. (Course Id have a hard time expecting you to compliment much of anything dickens...particularly anything of mine) Also, I like to see some rematches to see if things would turn out a little differently.

I already explained earlier that I wasn't going to put more than 3 teams from teh same conference in this bracket so of course Florida ended up the odd team out. Central Florida to me was kind of the "team no one expected" pick. Central Florida in this one to me was a lot like New Hampshire in the I-AA/FCS bracket this year.

Im looking forward to how this plays out though. Im not changing anything at this juncture.

You don't have to change anything, just do a little more thinking next time

rematches??? when are they gonna have a rematch.....most will probably vote the way they happened in the season....

about UCF.......well, why wasn't Houston in your tourney last season????same conference and were 9-3

compliment.....thanks for proving the bcs is working just fine

how the heck has this proved the BCS is working fine?? I am not saying this thing BJ is doing is at all close to how I would like things to be...but any kind of playoff would be a heck of a lot better then the freaking BCS.....

That is about as much a compliment as telling someone "gee, youre not as ugly (or fat, short, etc) as I thought you were" I know my system isn't perfect. Not to mention (as was said before by myself and others), this is a HYPOTHETICAL situation. Also, you can never discount the human element in things like this. Just for argument's sake I'll change a couple teams around on the at large side of things. This won't affect the final bracket (which has already been posted but I figure I might as well show that really you can't make everybody happy. Besides dickens, you and TTL seem to be the only ones who will (at least publicly) say they have a problem with the teams I chose). So anyway...

Auto bids:

ACC: Virginia Tech 11-2
Big 10: Ohio State 11-1
Big 12: Oklahoma 11-2
Big East: West Virginia 10-2
Pac-10: USC 10-2
SEC: LSU 11-2

At Large Bids:

ACC
Boston College Runner up to VA Tech (10-3)

Big 10
Illinois- Runner up to Ohio State (9-3)

Big 12
Missouri- Runner up to Oklahoma (11-2)
Kansas- 2nd place Big 12 North (11-1)

Big East
South Florida Big East 4th place (9-3)

Pac-10
Arizona State- Runner up to USC (10-2)
Oregon State- 3rd place (8-4)

SEC
Florida- SEC East 3rd place (9-3)
Tennessee- SEC East Champion (9-4)

Hawaii- Champions Western Athletic Conference (12-0)

If the teams were seeded based on record this would result:

1. Hawaii (12-0)
2. Ohio State (11-1
3. Kansas (11-1)
4. LSU (11-2)
5. Oklahoma (11-2)
6. Virginia Tech (11-2)
7. Missouri (11-2)
8. USC (10-2)
9. Arizona State (10-2)
10. West Virginia (10-2)
11. Boston College (10-3)
12. South Florida (9-3)
13. Illinois (9-3)
14. Florida (9-3)
15. Tennessee (9-4)
16. Oregon State (8-4)

Which would yield the bracket coming out this way:

Round 1
#1 Hawaii vs #16 Oregon State
#8 USC vs. #9 Arizona State

#5 Oklahoma vs. #12 South Florida
#4 LSU vs. #13 Illinois

#6 Virginia Tech vs. #11 Boston College
#3 Kansas vs. #14 Florida

#7 Missouri vs. #10 West Virginia
#2 Ohio State vs. #15 Tennessee

Now Im going to throw this out for all the South Florida fans and those in teh South Florida camp for them to be in this bracket to consider...Cincinnati has the same record as South Florida...Cincinnati BEAT South Florida straight up when they met this season...Also, Cincinnati BEAT 3 ranked teams this season (UCONN, South Florida, Rutgers)...South Florida played 3 ranked teams all season (beating 2: Auburn and West Virginia). What is to say I shouldn't have considered the Bearcats over them for an at large? Just something to chew on...

bc.....UCF a crappy team can make this tourney b/c they almost beat an okay team and got crushed by another.......weak schedule gets you far in the BCS just like this.....

but, you did say you watched Hawaii three time and weren't impressed with Brennan :D

it just shows that a playoff doesn't work!!! atleast one team that deserves a shot will always be left out (this one has Georgia out)

I know youre all pro-BCS and what not dickens but taking a look at both the "official bracket" and the "hypothetical bracket", if you would put somebody in, who would you take out and why? And in explaining which teams go out, don't be using stuff like "they are a crappy team" or "I just don't like them", etc. I mean I laid out some pretty cut and dry criteria so Im sure you could use that and some of that gray matter of yours to come up with something decent.

your first bracket remove UCF......you did

second bracket....you took out Georgia and left Oregon State in

Actually BJ....I HATE the BCS, but your system is not better; it merely represents the BCS

your tourney should have 8 teams......it is much harder to argue for a top 8 than a top 16

LSU
OU
OSU
VTECH
UGA
USC
KANSAS
ASU/WVU/--maybe Hawaii because WVU lost to such a bad team

those eight teams would work and that is no rank

the BCS sucks....sitting here watching the FCS playoffs on ESPN and how exciting this is just confirms it to me...

I don't agree that UCF should be in this thing BJ has set up...but if he was putting every conference champion in the playoff (11 total) and then having 5 at large I believe it would make a more exciting playoff system and give us a more march madness feel....but if a playoff system ever comes to be the only conferences getting the auto births is are the BCS conferences...

I have no watched the the college football national championship in 2 years...and I don't plan on watching it this year either....

Ok I know that many of you disagree with having UCF in my bracket. I know this runs absolutely counter to what I said before but here's what Im gonna do.

Im taking Central Florida, and Oregon State out. You guys got til 10 o clock tonight to make your case for who you thinkgoes in. You can put in one or two teams. Include their schedule, quality wins, bad losses, conference finish, anything you think is relevant. 10:30 tonight Im gonna repost the bracket and first round goes off at 10:30 tomorrow morning.

Alright, using MY idea, here's what we come up with...

(1)LSU (SEC)
(4)Oklahoma (Big 12)
(5)Hawaii (WAC)
(3)Virginia Tech (ACC)
(2)Ohio State (Big 10)
(8)West Virginia (Big East)
UCF (Conference USA)
(16)BYU (MWC)
CMU (MAC)
(10)USC (Pac-10)
Troy (Sun Belt)

21 At Larges:
(6)UGA
(7)Mizzou
(9)Kansas
(11)Florida
(12)Arizona State
(15)Illinois
(13)BC
(14)Clemson
Tennessee
Texas
Wisconsin
Cincy
UVA
Auburn
USF
Boise State
Arkansas
Navy
Air Force
Texas Tech
UConn

Top 16 teams seeded and will play at home in the first round, last 16 will matchup from bottom to top.

(1)LSU vs Troy
(2)OSU vs CMU
(3)VT vs Air Force
(4)OU vs UCF
(5)Hawaii vs Texas Tech
(6)Georgia vs UConn
(7)Mizzou vs Navy
(8)WVU vs Arkansas
(9)KU vs Boise State
(10)USC vs USF
(11)Florida vs UVA
(12)ASU vs Auburn
(13)BC vs Cincy
(14)Clemson vs Wisconsin
(15)Illinois vs Texas
(16)BYU vs Tenn

Tried to give the best seeds the easier games, with the lowest seeds being the most closely matched.

Navy gets consideration under the "Notre Dame" rule, that independents should not be punished for being independent.

BYU gets seeded and a home game over UT, TU, and Wisc. due to it's conference championship.

If you guys want, someone can run this thru NCAA 08 and see what happens, I think it sets up as a fun tournament. Hawaii TTU? What a great game that would be. I might put this up as polls, I dunno, depends on how you guys feel about it. I think it sets up very well, potenial for a lot of great games we wouldn't see otherwise.

What do ya think?

Holy crap. Good thing I haven't read this in a while. Man, the original bracket was just plumb stupid. Just stop now. TTL's would never happen in real life, but then again, no one would be dumb enough to let one like BJ's happen either. TTL's would be more fun to do as a message board thing.

BJ - Simple solution, put 4 SEC teams in.

so

WVU
USF
Florida
LSU
UGA
Tennessee
Ohio State
Illinois
Oklahoma
Kansas
Mizzou
Hawaii
VT
BC
USC
Arizona State

DONE, the best way to do it, this "CAA" rule you put out obviously doesnt work because the FCS playoffs broke that rule this year.

Actually I put that rule in specifically BECAUSE of this year when the CAA put 5 teams in the FCS playoffs (course only Delaware is left) In any case, I thought about this (and even actually thought about going ahead and not even doing it this time around, but I think its worth a shot. That being said, 10 o clock has of course come and gone so I think 14 has it right here..

ACC
Virginia Tech (Champion)
Boston College

Big East
West Virginia (champion)
South Florida

Big 10
Ohio State (champion)
Illinois

Big 12
Oklahoma (champion)
Missouri
Kansas

Pac 10
USC (champion)
Arizona State

SEC
LSU (champion)
Georgia
Tennessee
Florida

Hawaii

1. Ohio State
2. Oklahoma
3. LSU
4. Virginia Tech
5. West Virginia
6. USC
7. Georgia
8. Hawaii
9. Missouri
10. Arizona State
11. Kansas
12. Illinois
13. Florida
14. Boston College
15. Tennessee
16. South Florida

Now I know that really I can't please everybody with the seedings or with the teams that are in this but really this is the best compromise I can come up with. (Oh and I made sure that my top seeds didn't reflect the BCS so dickens can just take all that and shove it where it shall never be heard from again) Really I didn't want to have to change it but it was either that or cancel the whole thing or expect almost no participation.

With that said, here are the first round matchups:

#1 Ohio State vs #16 South Florida
#8 Hawaii vs #9 Missouri

#5 West Virginia vs #12 Illinois
#4 Virginia Tech vs #13 Florida

#6 USC vs #11 Kansas
#3 LSU vs # 14 Boston College

#7 Georgia vs #10 Arizona State
#2 Oklahoma vs # 15 Tennessee

First round starts at 10:30 AM Monday and runs for 4 days

best post ever BJ HAHAHAHAHA

Hey I have an idea, maybe you buy it maybe not. For the Christmas tournament some people had the idea of splitting up the first round games, so that 4 matchups would be tomorrow, the other four the next day. It makes sense to have the championship game and maybe the final 4 to be 4 days long, but how do you feel about making 4 first round games tomorrow lasting 2 days and the other 4 starting Wednesday lasting 2 days. Just a thought
