Will Webb try to get a recount with it this close?

I believe a recount is likely unless there is a big surprise in the next 5.81% of the vote.

Can you say, "Recount." We may have to wait a while on this one. Don't count on staying up all night and getting an answer.

It doesn't help matters any that the polls ran out of ballots here in Lynchburg. My wife and I went to the Moose Lodge on 221 (Lakeside) to vote at 6:30pm tonight and were told that the entire city of Lynchburg had run out of ballots. They had run off copies but they weren't compatible with the voting machines. This left 6 voting machines completely useless and the line slowed to a stop as the line of over 100 people had to wait for each person to cast their ballot before the next in line could move up. It was taking between 1-2 minutes per person to vote. Soon after the doors were locked at 7pm, several people decided that they didn't want to wait around for a couple more hours to vote and walked out. I just wonder how many people just left the polling places here in town due to the problem? The excuse was that the people in Richmond underestimated the turnout here in Lynchburg and thus didn't have enough ballots.

Pretty sad.

Why can't we just use scantrons?

Everyone I know had to deal with the no ballot situation in Lynchburg tonight. Surely it'll be N&A cover news tomorrow.

One would hope it would merit a good deal of coverage tomorrow. It was quite a fiasco.

I don't know that I've ever seen an election come down to the wire like this with so many votes cast. This is actually quite exciting like watching a playoff game.

Democrats now have control of the house, need 3 to take the Senate.

I think the Parker angle is interesting because those are definitely votes taken from Webb, not Allen.

That is an excellent point. I just flipped to CNN and they have the reporting at 98% and feel that Allen's lead is pretty safe at this point (1,133,000 to 1,127,000). Of course, any race finishing within 1% will most likely result in a recount anyway. With the crew I saw tonight in Lynchburg, I wouldn't trust a lot of them to do the ballot counting correctly. Who exactly would have been in charge of counting the printed ballots tonight? Please don't tell me it was the poll workers.

The VA State Board of Elections has been sitting at 97.42% reporting for quite a bit now. Wonder why the progress has stalled all of a sudden?
