I didn't say Phoenix wasn't a star, I said he wasn't that big of one which he wasn't. 'Gladiator' did far more for Russell Crowe than it did for Phoenix. Joaquin didn't become a bankable star until 'Walk the Line'.
As for Giamatti, he started out 20+ years ago. All the crappy movies I listed for him have come in the last 5-6 years. By the way, did he sing on the soundtrack for 'Cinderella Man' or something? I'd like to know how he got the Grammy nomination.
