I know that's the big joke, but I got my Geo Prism going 105. You might be confusing it with the Metro... the 3 cylinder that gets outrun by golf carts.
You know what the difference between the Metro and the Prism is? One extra hamster.
While that's true, that one hamster makes a huge difference!

Yeah, I always like to think i don't fit into that category...my dad taught me to drive very (probably too) defensively....

I guess smashing my roomates parked car was a small dose of humility

I had progressive up until 2 years ago. I decided to look around because i thought that i was overpaying...after looking around getting some quotes I went with Geico and saved 55 bucks a month compared to what i was paying with progressive...and its the same exact coverage...so go figure....

An insurance frienc of mine said that you should change up about every two years or so. It keeps the rates from creeping up.

I work for one of the insurers listed above and serve as an arbitrator in liability disputes between insurance companies. Here are some thoughts. The severity of claims in recent years thanks in part to safety design changes in cars and a drought in hurricanes since Katrina has made the insurance industry much more profitable and thus more competitive for carriers. But beware of the pitfalls. In my opinion, the items most important to look for are adequate coverage limits and competent legal counsel should you be sued, policy renewal and surcharge procedures should you have an accident and of course price. Insurers look at policyholders as a measure of risk. The longer you are with the same carrier and carry a good loss record, the better your risk, the lower your premiums and the better likelihood you will not be dropped after making a claim. If you are dropped by an insurer due to a lack of tenure with the company after making a claim, you head to the state's assigned risk pool and good luck with those rates. Some things to consider other than price, according to the NAIC (ins commissioners) Progressive complaint ratio historically is astronomically higher than the industry average. Allstate will raise your rates after an accident, even if you were not at fault in my state and Nationwide and several others will insist in many cases on using repair parts for your cars that were not made by the original manufacturer. Regional carriers can offer lower rates but when you are being sued for missing a stop sign and causing whiplash do you want cheap legal representation that goes with the lower rates?
