Typically the longer you wait the clearer the highways become. If it turns toward Houston we will wait until the lat day to evacuate if we have to under duress.

I can't even imagine having to evacuate and worry about if I have a home when I get back.

Prayers to everyone in that area. Sly and anyone else, be careful and get out if you have too!

maybe this time will be enough to convince some of these people not to come back.

Thankfully, Gustav has lost some of its punch. I pray that continues to be the case.

I just pray we get some rain from this like we did from Fay...obviously, I don't want anything bad to happen to anyone and will continue to pray for its weakening, but there are a lot of places in the Southeast that could use the tropical rain.

Yeah sure, let's abandon New Orleans and then watch the rest of the country shut down. That's beyond an idiotic statement.

We don't need anymore rain down here in Florida. Fay left us our fair share after 4 days of sitting on top of us.

would you buy a house somewhere if you knew that it would get flooded, siginificantly damaged, or destoryed very often? if so, then that's beyond idiotic.

the cost to rebuild the destruction from Katrina has cost americans billions of dollars and if it happens again even more billions of dollars. that money could be better spent on other things, such as securing social security (since it's in place, the best thing to do would be to scrap it and privative retirement completely) or investing more into educating the youth of america in science and math.

i think the phrase "fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me" in an appropriate statement here.

I never realized that NO had such an impact on the rest of the country- like say, New York.

And I thought you were a realist!

You guys are really showing your level of intelligence here. New Orleans is the mouth of the miss. river and the most important port in America. If it shuts down for a prolonged period of time, the nation as we run it shuts down.

And if you want to close down everywhere that is threatened by natural disasters, let's go ahead and move everyone out of most of California, let's move our farmers away from the delta in the heartland, etc, etc.

Seriously, do some research and improve your IQ before posting. Thanks, MGMT.

I don't think much of people who continuosly rebuild in disaster prone areas over and over again, complain when their buildings/homes and possessions get destroyed when they know they are in a disaster prone area, and then they spend billions of tax payers money on it. I don't care if they live in new orleans or middle of nowhere, I just don't think much of those people no matter what.

It's like building a house in the middle of a forest and then complaining about a forest fire destroying your house. What the hell do you expect to happen?

...it WAS up to 140 MPH...and it is now 115 MPH...I call that losing some of its punch.

it's not insanity. it's called an opinion. i think people who keep rebuilding over and over again, and then complain that their property got destroyed like it was some random unforeseen events are idiots, simply idiots.

well then keep reading....while it may have slowed NOW, before landfall its supposed to intensify further and be a CAT 4 for 5 for that matter. It only weakened because it hit Cuba but is now out in open ocean.

Weather Channel says:
The NHC advisory reports a lowering pressure within Gustav; from 960 millibars down to 952 millibars. This is one sign of some gradual re-strengthening. Its appearance on satellite is also improving with thunderstorms trying to wrap around the entire center of circulation.
Do they mean improving as in improving for folks in the area it will hit or what? I thought that was an odd way to phrase it right after saying it could gradually re-strengthen...

It means an eye wall can be forming...meaning it could pick up strength, again, as it goes thru the night. That is NOT a good thing.
