I am looking for help finding out how to download movies/tv shows and burn them to dvds. PM details if you don't want to post them. I know how to burn from a physical DVD but am not sure what I need or where to look for downloading. I've been hearing great things about some older TV shows I want to check out and don't really want to watch them on my monitor so DVD is the best option for me.

Do you have an IPod? if so you can just put them on there, hook it up to your tv and you're good to go.

That is what I do anyways.

Whatever DVD burning program you're using should know how to convert MPEG, MOV, AVI etc. into something playable on a regular DVD player as it's burning. Just as long as you don't choose an option of burning the actual files on an "information" disc.

You're right, I wouldn't steal a car. I'm looking to download TV shows basically. The show I'm really looking for is The Wire which I've heard great things about but missed. I subscribe to HBO so they're getting my money. I could have recorded the shows on my DVR and transferred to tape but this seems easier...

I was being sarcastic. I'm completely in favor of pirating discs. The recording industry is the only industry on earth that thinks it can tell you what to do with a product after you buy it.

and the record industry is the same way as well. they are a bunch of frauds and liars. they dont want people to download music illegally and all that stuff, but when have the prices of CDs gone down? once CDs became the established media format for music, they said the prices of CDs would eventually come down. well last time I looked, a new CD still costs between 12-15 dollars (unless a sale occurs), the same as it has been since the CD became the established format. they lied to us and continue to cheat CD buyers out of money, so it serves them right to take back some of that money by getting music for free.

I do this all the time...but I need a little more info, what are the file types that you are mainly downloading? Some newbies upload some funky files that require you to do some different things then your standard Mpeg etc.

I mainly rip DVD's using SlySoft Any DVD (which you can download from Pirate Bay and can be tricky to get around the registering so if you need help let me know) and AnyDVD removes all the copy protection and I then use Clone DVD (also on pirate bay) to copy it over....you could only use Clone DVD if you're downloading the ISO file (which I'm thinking it is your downloading since that's what 90% of the people use) and it will compress it for you so it'll fit on a standard single layer dvd

Let me know if you want any more help

I downloaded ConvertXtoDVD and it had a keygen so it's working fine. The files for the first season of The Wire are .mkv but the second season has AC3 with additional .srt files for subtitles. I've converted and burned season 1 and it worked fine. I haven't tried converting season 2 yet. I also use DVDFab Platinum for straight DVD copying. Is Pirate Bay the best place to find torrents? I've been using that and mininova for a long time but only for music up to this point. I'm open to any recommendations if what I'm using/doing isn't the best way.

Pirate bay has the most users and is very organized then any other site...it also will let people make comments which will answer most of your questions b/c a lot of newbies ask a lot of questions....if you dont find it on Pirate bay then it prob isnt made...but if you know it's out there just google it and add in the word torrent and you should come up with it

I used convert X to dvd ...I ran into problems with newer discs so I started running software that is updated often (like the software I mentioned before)

Pirate Bay is my favorite because it's free. I don't understand why torrent sites want you to pay for stuff. If I wanted to pay for it, I would have bought it legally in the first place.
