The guys aren't the only ones swinging bats in the spring. You can follow the squad throughout the season and even get the latest on recruiting.

I have to agree with this approach. Most people would understand the importance of the land, future plans, etc. One could even argue where they built the new baseball, and future 2nd indoor football practice field, is prime land as well (10 years from now as some have suggested).

Plans change & life isn't fair... the softball facility should have been addressed years ago, prior to the +$5,000,000 Baseball Stadium. You are asking a coach to recruit a D1 level pitcher and your "set of steak knives" is a construction trailer, 20 year old cinder block dugouts, and a nice quiet field away from the heart beat of the campus. Did I mention it's in Lynchburg...

Liberty has more room for expansion than probably any university in the nation. There is enough room somewhere on "the mountain" to build a state of the art softball field as nice as any in the country.
LU just needs to make the commitment to softball, and there is plenty of room for improvement to Flames Softball.

Sorta like now? :D They would put it there till they realized that land would be more valuable as a waste and refuse recycling center.

LU does not have a land problem. There's enough land to build any and all projects desired.

Truth be known, LCA probably has a better softball field than the Flames.

Plans change. "Promises"....if it ever was truly a promise in the first place, sometimes need to be broken to do what is best for the university. There is plenty of room for softball on east campus. Me thinks Haize had a few promises broken as an 8 year old and hasn't fully recovered :)

Honey, I know I promised you were the only one for me but there's this lady at work and I think it would be best for our relationship if she and I spent some time together. I mean its no big deal because it's ok if we break promises for a greater good.
Do we know for sure it's going on East Campus? If so where? And when?

While at baseball game Saturday, I was told by a good source, that new softball field will be "under the LU logo" on the mountain.

How is that even possible ? If you have ever been 'under the logo' you would see it is more suited for a Soap Box derby ramp than softball field

Then I stand corrected. They must have done some excavating since last I was up there a year ago.

They cleared quite a bit of land over there across from the Wingate. I think I saw an aerial from this summer or something where they had a pretty sizeable tract of land ready to be worked on for a few projects

If Im not mistaken...yes. I think there had been some talk of clearing some more out that way for additional housing eventually...

See when I think of 'under the logo' I draw a straight line from the logo down. If you are talking next to Wingate that's awhile different place,IMO. So suck it Cider!

Hold your horses there PH...I think the plan had been to build over across that way (under the monogram and what not) for some time. They had been doing some land study to build over there a few years back and I think they couldnt find rock for good solid foundation building so they put plans on hold.

Planned on doing something, then changed it? Yep sounds par for the "softball' course. Ha

BJ has been sending me messages about this thread for a while now and I finally got a chance to look at it tonight. As usual, I see that certain members here have formed strong opinions without having the facts. First of all, when we announced the new baseball stadium, we did say softball would move to the old baseball stadium and they probably still will for a period of time but, as I said on the radio, I really believe the land where Worthington Field is now located will have to be used for academic purposes at some point. Its proximity to DeMoss and the new quad will no doubt someday dictate an academic use. The only promise (that I am aware of) that has ever been made is to build a new softball field. Anyone who can't see LU's commitment to make all of its athletic facilites first class must have their head buried in the sand. It is simply stupid to think that LU would leave one sport out of its overall plan. That doesn't even make sense. If the athletic program is to go where we intend, all sports facilities have to meet a certain standard. There is a long term plan in place for softball and it has not been announced yet but it meets or exceeds the standard that we have set with the baseball stadium, the football stadium and all our other facilities. In fact, it is part of a much larger complex that includes athletic facilities that have never really been discussed before and that I am really excited about. I did not make it clear on the radio that the original plan and the current plan for Worthington was to serve as a softball stadium until a new and better softball stadium was built. We were not ready to release that level of detail at that time. If I had known that some people believed that a promise had been made that the team would be playing in Worthington forever, then I probably would have refrained from commenting on the longer term plans for that site.

So, in the end, this entire thread is based on the false premise that softball was promised that Worthington Field would become a softball stadium and softball would never move again to a new stadium and that somebody arbitrarily decided instead that Worthington was too valuable of a site for softball to ever be located there and was instead building a softball field in some out of the way location.

How many times do I have to come here and set the record straight because certain people with incomplete information refuse to give Liberty the benefit of the doubt? You would think after doing that as many times as I have here that certain people would start to have some confidence in the leadership at Liberty. We have planned and built more facilities in record time in the last six or seven years than maybe any other school in the country and, while circumstances may cause plans to change occasionally, I don't think you will find a school anywhere that moves at the pace Liberty does and accomplishes as much in the construction of new facilities as quickly as Liberty. I can't help that Liberty might have been unable to accomplish all that it planned and hoped to accomplish back in the day when money was tight but, in recent years, I will put our record of delivering what we promised up against anyone's. It is time to start judging Liberty based on the present and recent history instead of the distant past.

And I'm not mad at you, PH. My Dad used to say never get mad when people are saying things about you that are untrue. Just be glad they don't know the truth! I still try to follow his advice. :D

Since I have been the most vocal critic of the situation I can safely surmise that you direct your comments to me and my 'incomplete" information. Maybe I should set the record straight. You are also making false assumptions based on incomplete data. While your post is appreciated, it really doesn't address the situation as discussed on this thread.
My premise, and it bears out, is that Softball is not a priority. It is last on the list of sports or activities to be usgraded, including club sports
Whether or not Worthington was promised as a permanent home is irrelevant. What is relevant, is that they aren't being allowed to use it now, even as a 'temporary' home. The question then becomes, what changed for this to happen? Why can't they use it as a temporary home as was originally promised?
This is not the first time that SB has been promised a new home only to have it be pushed off to a later date.
Wouldn't a more prudent course of action to have released the bad news, no Worthington, with the good news, date place time of new facility?
How is this doubting Liberty leadership? Why can't it just be pointing out the obvious? Maybe it is time for you to judge these posts based on content, and give them the benefit of the doubt, instead of having you opinions influenced by others? I look forward to seeing the plans of this new mega facility in the future
