Our Christian foundation is what makes our university unique. This is the place to bring prayer requests, discuss theological issues and how to become better Champions for Christ.

Please pray for me and my family. We moved to Lynchburg 4.5 years ago so that I could pursue my seminary degree. At that time my wife and I "switched places," and she went to work for the university. Our original plans were to move back to Michigan after my schooling, but the economy is so bad that we are finding it difficult to move back.

We love Liberty & Lynchburg. The only reason we keep an eye open in Michigan is because of family. Because of the difficulty in finding work up north, I began applying for work here, but things have not been working out. My student loans are coming due this month and we are stressed. To make a long story short, we probably need one good job for me here in the burg, or two good jobs up north.

Saying a prayer right now in Houston

Are you at all willing to consider Texas or Florida where jobs are more plentiful? As a transplantwd Ohioan, I have no regrets making such a move.

I would be, but I don't think my wife would. At some point we may have to consider broadening our search. When we consider a move, it makes it more difficult if we have to look for two jobs rather than just one.

Working for the University would help ease my desire to be in the local church. I had an interview for a position in early december. The person interviewing me was called out of the interview after about 5 minutes. Up to that point, very little was asked of me - it was mostly "this is what the job is, does it excite you." (I made it clear that I was, and that I would like to contribute to my alma mater in this way). The interviewer apologized and seemed to think I would bring some good skills and experience to the position lacking in other candidates. I was told that I would have a second interview. I followed up with a couple of emails which said "people are gone, we are working on things." Last night my wife checked the system and the positions had been filled. I didn't even get an email or phone call. To be honest I am very hurt by it. If a better candidate came along, great! Common courtesy, however, they should have let me know.

Praying for you 'bama. Job search is one of the most stressful periods in anyone's life. I've been through it too many times. I've learned though that God is always faithful and hindsight usually proves that I needn't have stressed so much. But uncertainty will do that to you.

What type of position are you looking for in a church? There are an array of possibilities in churches these days. And with the amazing growth of church plants there is a fast moving job market these days.

My passion is for family ministry. Specifically, I want to help equip parents to be spiritual leaders. I could care less about the position or title. I am more concerned about being in the right place with the right people. I could fulfill my ministry desires in any number of roles: youth ministry, small groups, adult ministry, associate pastor, senior pastor. My preference would be to be an associate of some sort (any that I just mentioned, for example). The problem is finding a church whose vision is similar to mine.

For what its worth, you can take a look at my resume:

First Baptist Church of Norfolk, VA is looking for a minister to students; they are currently reshaping the role to be family ministry driven. It might be worth looking in to if you're interested: http://www.firstnorfolk.org.

I served as an associate in the student ministry for awhile many years ago. Great people and a great church!

Thanks for the heads up. Do you know where the listing is posted?

I believe I know the Media Minister there. These are the types of leads that are invaluable.

You might want to check the available positions at Liberty Online. You could get an adjunct professor position that would certainly help pay the bills (IIRC, there's a Church History position available, and there may be a few others).
