Our Christian foundation is what makes our university unique. This is the place to bring prayer requests, discuss theological issues and how to become better Champions for Christ.
We have been on the phone the past 12 hours or so with family members having to evacuate their homes in Central Texas due to wildfires. This is serious business in a state that has been caught up in a drought of major proportions for two years.
Please pray for these families forced from their homes now waiting to hear from firefighters whether or not they have lost everything.
Louisiana has been a weaker drought than Texas but they need the rain desperately as well. I was in Baton Rouge this past week and had to fly out early to avoid the storm. People there were excited about the storm's arrival.
Here in Texas, we could have used some rain from that tropical storm. We could use rain from anywhere!
We still have family members evacuated right now and the fires are spreading. The big fire in Bastrop that is all over the national news started in the house behind one of Mrs. Sly's uncles (about 50 feet away from the guest house where we stayed after Hurricane Ike). Fortunately the wind blew the fire the other direction.
It is hard for the rest of the country to grasp how deep our drought has been in Texas. It has been devastating and typically we have some tropical activity to offer us some relief. This season has not offered even the slightest rain activity for Texas.
Am praying for Texas folk right now, Sly. Lived in Houston for 13 years (NW Freeway area near Jersey Village) and have heard from friends and family there how dry things have been.
The wildfires are inching closer toward the NW side of Houston. We have a bunch of people in my church being evacuated from their homes near Magnolia. This is scary business on about every level.
Figuring It Out - Some of the Cy-Fair schools are closing today to be used at emergency shelters. And the precious little water he had left in aquifers & lakes is being used in the firefighting. Water rationing is about to be come more widespread.
