Hey guys. This is by no means an urgent request or anything but if you get a chance, just mention me to God in your prayers. I'm starting to figure out this whole "what am I supposed to be doing" thing and things are starting to come together for me. I've got a couple of potential opportunities I'm praying about and trying to see if they'll open up and all of that. I'm halfway through grad school and trying to determine what to do about the degree and possible jobs and all of that. Yes, I know I'm being vague but right now things are still pretty vague for me. Thanks in advance.

Ok, so things have completely flipped from when I originally made this thread but the point of it still remains. I actually have an interview at nine this morning. It popped out of the blue completely last week and wasn't on my radar at all. Needless to say I'm still trying to process it and all of that. Going into it with an open mind though to listen to what they have to say. Probably gonna have to make a pretty important decision in the next couple days so I'm bumping this thread back up. Thanks guys.

Praying in Houston.

And for the record, I can tell you that a lot of the megachurches in Texas have been hiring guys with your educational mix because of the opportunity to reach out to unchurched kids through sports. Just something to chew on.

thats not just in TX, sly. And depending upon your definition of megachurch, not just for megachurchs. Sports pastors are becoming a new thing in alot of churches around the country.

Praying for ya SJ. God will show you the way, and make it so you can only be happy with that decision.

Ok, it's a little more pressing now. I've gotta decide between a couple of different things and have a deadline of Friday to decide on them. I'm still having to gather information on stuff. It's basically coming down to a part-time job here in Lynchburg or an internship in a church for the summer. I know one of the churches has one for sure that I could do but they don't know yet whether or not it's paid. The other church is paid but I haven't been able to find out all the details on it yet and have been playing phone tag. I've got three days to find it all out and decide.

Just an update:

I turned the job with Liberty down. It would've helped a ton financially in the short term, but I'm really feeling like I need to get in a church and get my feet wet this summer. In the long term, that'll help me get a job and be better off financially. It's just going to be really tight money wise for a while. That's grad school for you though.

Right now I've sent my resume to one church (Westridge Church in Dallas, GA) to either work with one of their church plants (Oak Leaf Church in Cartersville, GA or a couple others) or their youth ministry. I'm applying this week with another student ministry (Heritage Church in Clearwater, FL - youth pastor is a Liberty grad). Right now I don't have a set internship and haven't been accepted to anything so I'm taking a big leap of faith that this is what's right and believing something will get worked out. I'm still looking around for other opportunities. My feeling is I've seen how things were done in rural NC. I've seen how they've been done in Lynchburg. I want to get out and get experience in another setting. Then selfishly, I wanna go out and go somewhere I've never been before and this is my last opportunity to do that before I'm out looking for an actual job. All of my undergrad work was to get a job in sport management. Now that I know I'm not doing that, I'm having to build my resume up for ministry. It's a fun process. A lot of it has happened pretty fast but I'm loving it.

Putting it in the Lord's hands and being in the center of His will is the key bro. I was born in Clearwater, in fact, me and the Mrs. are going down for a week to see mom, dad, and family next week. Can't wait to go trout fishing.:gonefishin Anyway, I know nothing about Heritage in Clearwater, can't help you there. I'll lift you up in prayer for sure.

Westridge in georgia, thats brian bloye's church right? He is an amazing pastor and has an amazing heart. I would jump at the opportunity to serve in the church with him if I had it.

I never realized you had switched from sports management, do you really go to seminary? I feel like a complete idiot for my statement a while ago when beecher transfered when I sarcastically asked "you go to seminary?" Anyways, definitely praying for you man. My only addition to this conversation comes from something I read yesterday in "Found: Gods will" by John Macarthur Jr., and he was basically talking about a guy he knew who wanted to drop everything and go to france because he was called there, and he did the 5 spiritual checks and did it, Macarthur helped him raise all the money, he got it all, and is now serving in Canada, but doing what he wanted to do in france. He was saying how once he knew he was the man for the mission, it didnt matter where he went. The point of it was talking about how its like changing the direction of a stationary semi-truck. Yes, God can do it, but he wants you to get the wheels rolling before he tries and turns it.
