As you guys could tell I dont ask for this kind of stuff often but I feel like it's needed now. I'm headed to the Dominican Republic to do some baseball camps and mission work. We're going to give baseball equipment to the kids and put on some clinic's and stuff. Should be a really neat experience. I'm headed down with Ron Bishop (some of you guys prob know him and his SCORE ministries) and a few MLB ball players should be there. Rivera, Pujlos (sp?) and some others...we'll get to go to orphanages and other pretty neat stuff....hopefully this will be an eye opening experience and something I can walk away from a better person.

Anyways, the DR can be a rough place. So pretty much just prayer for safety and for us to be able to impact kids lives in a positive way.

I leave tomorrow....thanks guys :D

Praying in Houston

Ron Bishop is a great guy and he took Carter McMasters and some other guys down to Central America just before the fall semester began.

As for the DR, it is enjoying a great deal of investment so at least around the resort areas it is not the 3rd World it used to be. But in the barrios where the real baseball is played, I'll but security will need to be tight.

That is awesome, HMO. May God grant you safe travel and safe haven down in the DR.

Sounds like a great opportunity HMO. Where in the DR are you headed? I've spent a good bit of time there, and if you have any free time for exploring, I may have some suggestions. Despite the growth of their resort industry, overall, it is still very much a third world country, and you will no doubt see some real poverty, which can indeed have a way of changing your outlook. I really wouldn't worry too much about personal safety doing what you will be doing though. Most foreigners who have problems in the DR are drunk and stupid. Use common sense, don't play the rich gringo and flash a lot of money or wear an expensive watch or "bling" and you should be fine.
