Well Im not sure if I mentioned this to you guys but she did say her first words in a couple months last week. She said "thank you" and after that she couldn't shut up!

her speech is very slow, much like children who are talking for the first time, but the fact that she is speaking is amazing in and of itself.

Hey guys, I just thought Id let you know that I got to see my sister in Richmond on Sunday. She is doing very well. She was very chatty and smiled a lot. She still has a fairly juvenile mindset (that may be a result of the coma she was in), but is progressing very well. She can write her name and the names of others with a little help. SHe was moved to a new ward yesterday because the one she was in is being remodeled. There is talk of moving her to the Medical College of Virginia for more advanced treatment but we shall see how that goes.

Well its update time again.

Becky made very rapid progress in Richmond. So much that they decided that she is well enough that any therapy she gets from here on out can be done at home so my parents brought her home last weekend. She gets very tired easily but that could be a byproduct of a number of things. She is eating...a lot...which is another encouraging sign. She had been feeling a tad under the weather the last couple days so pray for that. She is starting to articulate her responses a little better here in the last few days (thanks to the speech therapist) but due to the brain damage she suffered from teh coma her judgement is still not where it was (i.e. she can't do things like drive) but that will come with time

Its not surprising that its taking awhile for her to get her strength. But it is encouraging that the other aspects of her being are coming back into shape.

These developments are truly an answer to prayer.

They are indeed Sly.

As a precaution though she is back in the hospital because she has been very lethargic the last few days and we want to see what is the deal with that. Do pray that we aren't looking at further complications from her diabetes and the events of the last few months

Well folks after a couple of rough pain filled days, Becky is doing better. She is starting to converse using more words too which is an encouraging sign. She still has a very long road ahead and continued prayers would be appreciated, especially since we are actually in a different house now because of some renovations being done to the family home.

Hey guys, just another quickie on my sister.

She is light years beypnd where she was even as recently as a couple weeks ago. She is talking to people, smiling, laughing, and showing that bubbly personality that has largely been missing the last year or so. She was even dancing with my mom in the family room last night (this after watching "So You Think You Can Dance" on the Fox network).

This girl is living proof of the miracle working power of God.

Here is the latest on Becky.

She is continuing to improve although she did have an unrelated setback due to an impaction in her colon and had to get that cleared out and spend a few days in the hospital.

She has improved to the point that insurance won't cover home therapy any more and she will be starting outpatient therapy session probably in the next month or so.

Well Becky continues to improve. Her old personality is really starting to show. She still neesd work in speech and occupational therapy but hopefully she will be closer to back to normal come end of this year. Our cousin who moved down here from Boston last year is watching her in the mornings now that I am back in Lynchburg and a friend of ours that had been watching her is back at my dad's office

Im bumping this one back up because my sister is in need of your prayers once again. My dad found her convulsing on the floor in her room last night after she overdosed on pain medication. She was rushed by ambulance to the hospital and she is on a ventilator right now. She is stable and responding to some commands but she is by no means out of the woods yet.

Thanks for the prayers guys...I got an update from my mom and she will pull through this one...turns out she had written a suiicide note in her journal and she was trying to overdose to basically stop dealing with the stomach pain she has been going through since about 2003 as a complication of her diabetes (and I think her lack of proper management). She is off the ventilator but her throat is still pretty scratched up from having the tube inserted. She gets an IV drip in the meanwhile but she is talking. She actually does not remember writing the note (her memory was compormised as a result of the coma she was in a couple years ago), but my mom showed it to her. Anyway, she is getting a psychiatric evaluation tomorrow (pretty standard for failed suicide attempts Im guessing) and also good to report...no further brain damage.
