Considering the horrific day over in Blacksburg, I feel it is time for us to begin praying for those directly affected whether they be injured or the family & friends of those killed. They'll need all of the prayer support they can get.

I definitely will be praying for them. This hits extremely close to home, since it is so close to us, and many of us know people who go there. A very sad day.

I lived in Pritchard, the dorm across from A-J, as a Hokie frosh. This whole thing is kind of numbing.

Longhorn or Aggie, Buckeye or Wolverine, Bruin or Trojan, Blue Devil or Tar Heel, Wahoo or Hurricane, Chanticleer or Eagle, Flame or Highlander...today we are all Hokies.

I'm sure VT, the students and families of the victims as well as the injured will all be in our prayers for quite some time.

Here's a story from Charlottevsille on the impact of prayers being offered up on message boards:
Sports message boards find new use after tragedy
Web sites such as Thesabre.com, Techsideline.com provide forum for discussion, communication after yesterday morning's shootings at Virginia Tech

Eric Kolenich, Cavalier Daily Senior Associate Editor

In the wake of yesterday's tragedy at Virginia Tech, online sports message boards served a more important purpose, providing an outlet for people to report information about the shootings that killed 33 people.

With cell phone coverage limited yesterday in the Blacksburg area, many turned to sports message boards to communicate news reports as well as personal reactions to the day's events. In fact, the two largest message boards for Virginia and Virginia Tech sports -- Thesabre.com and Techsideline.com -- have become completely devoted to discussion of the shootings.

Chancellor's Office

From the Chancellor's Desk:

I ask that the Liberty family be in constant prayer for all whose hearts are hurting at Virginia Tech.

I called VT President Dr. Charles Steger immediately after the shootings with the intent of offering all Liberty’s resources to him to help the terrible breach on that campus. Phones were understandably dead. Liberty then contacted other officials and all our counselors and pastors from Liberty and Thomas Road Baptist Church have been offered to Virginia Tech as long as they are needed.

I re-emphasize that while everyone cannot participate, all can pray.

I was wondering if LU would offer grief counselors from the psychology/counseling center and access to pastors for those on the campus that would like to have access to a pastor. I was glad to see it was offered in an understated "not draw attention to LU" manner. Very classy and hopefully all of those affected will find comfort in their time of sorrow and shock.
