I was browsing around on Flickr and found these pictures that are mapped in Lynchburg. Does anybody know where this is?

The photos are geotagged, but those aren't always the most accurate things in the world. It shows it being taken back behind a neighborhood next to the Old City Cemetary. It has the tag "Blackwater Creek" so I'm guessing it's on that trail but I've never been down that whole trail, so I don't really know.

It's the part of the trail that starts down off of Federal St (?), which is off of fifth st. There's a park down there next to a small waterfall. There are always people trying to fish there, and the tunnel is just a little ways down the trail. It's cut through the rock, so it's always very cold inside, even in the summer.

You can access the trail near the Macon College Booksore on Rivermont Avenue. Just follow the brown Blackwater Creek signs. Once you get to the parking lot at the bottom of the hill, take the trail to the LEFT until it forks, and then take the RIGHT fork, and you will only be a few yards from the entrance of the tunnel.

The Blackwater Creek Tail is honestly one of the best kept secrets in Lynchburg. It's part of the Rails to Trails system and is at least 7 or 8 miles long one way, so if you travel round trip by bike its around 14-16 miles of wooded trails. It begins behind the Greek Orthodox Church on Langhorne Road and goes all the way across the James River, via bridges and an island into Amherst County.

Actually at that point it is Hollins Mill road, but you are correct in saying that it is Federal St. when you get closer to downtown. "Trying to fish" is a good way to put it. I've gone there a lot (it's close to where I live) and I don't think I've ever seen anyone catch anything, but there is almost always someone there putting their bait in the water.

I actually had a professor friend catch a large mouth bass out of there above the falls the day Hanky was hired, but the best you can usually do is finger-length creek chubs on a trout hook.

Well, folks in NC call that a "hollar" (normally spelled hollow).
