Falwell: near-death experience changed outlook on life

A year after the Reverend Jerry Falwell almost died not once, but twice, the 72-year-old pastor and Liberty University Chancellor says he now has a much different outlook on life.

Falwell says his wife and doctors had been on him for years to change his lifestyle, but what they couldn't do, two trips to the hospital did. He still preaches and travels every week, but his 16-hour work days have been cut in half . Falwell says he's eating better, working less and walking more every day.

Falwell says he's asked God for "another 15 years with an option to renew". He figures that's how long it will take to achieve his goal of enrolling 25,000 students at Liberty University.

lucky that the medics were in the parking lot and dragged him inside, you mean. But we've had this conversation before.

He was not lucky; he was in God's hands.

Point well taken. In stead of lucky perhaps we should say fortunate.

I'm thankful the Lord blessed him. I wasn't sure what would have happened to LU had he passed away. The university just seems to be growing so much, not like when I went and was nervous that I would have a degree from a defunct university. He is such a recruiter for the school.

I don't anticipate LU going anywhere regardless of who passes away.

No, it is much more secure now. I was just thinking in terms of visibility and fundraising. Dr. Falwell brings both to the school.

For all intents and purposes, he already has. So, no.

your right, every now and then JFjr will bounce something off JF, but the everyday business is in JFjr's hands and JF is working on building for the future with funds and buildings....there's a reason you dont see JFjr at as many baseball, softball, basketball games as much as you see JF
