As expected:
Due to Dr. Falwell's Memorial Service, all the university offices will be closed tomorrow excluding mission-critical personnel and those already assigned for some duty related directly to the memorial service.

The front doors of the Thomas Road Baptist Church will open at 11AM and seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the TRBC Sanctuary and Main Street have been filled to legal capacity the Vines Center and Arthur L. Williams Stadium will be open as venues to watch the Memorial Service both with giant jumbotrons.

After the Memorial Service you are welcome to join thousands of guests for an informal time of fellowship, remembrance, and celebration on the playing field of the Arthur L. Williams Football Stadium.

We are also requesting that Liberty University Faculty and Staff consider parking off-campus on Tuesday at one of the Shuttle Locations. The transit system will take you to and from your vehicle all day on Tuesday.

For shuttle information, you may go to the splash page, or the LU homepage to learn which Lynchburg area parking lots will have shuttle service to and from campus.

Those that the Funeral would not be able to proceed if they were not their. That in short is a lot of offices.

Off the top of my head, I would guess LUPD, Maintenance, Grounds, Technical Productions, Transportation, Access Control, Information Services, Media Services and the counseling office. I'm sure there's more.

They didnt announce the school is closed until this afternoon.

well I PM'd HMO and he said he's only going to be using this for a few days until you make him one of just Jerry Jr. I asked him if I could use this one and he said he didnt have a problem with it so I might steal it once you get his other one done. Great job btw

I looked all over the Splash page and couldn't find it. I guess I'll e-mail my professor or something. I didn't think an 8-10:30 class would be canceled.

Classes are not cancelled, per Dr. Rist:
"I have received inquiries from faculty teaching intensives as to whether this applies to their classes. This message is written to provide clarification.

Faculty teaching intensives should plan to conclude classes no later than 11 a.m. tomorrow. It is unlikely that those who are teaching and their students will be able to get seating in the Thomas Road Worship Center. My recommendation is that they make plans to participate in the service either in the Vines Center or Williams Stadium.

I will send you information a bit later today as to when the ILRC and computer labs will reopen tomorrow.

Please distribute this information to the faculty and academic staff."

boy, that strikes me as a bit insensative, but whatever.

you'd think ART 101 and whatever other classes "have" to be held could take the day off to honor the man who FOUNDED the university, church, and pretty much everything else.

maybe its just me :furious

Medic, there are classes going on this week that are only this week. They're intensives that last 5 days. You cancel a day completely and you lose 20% of that class. There's no reason the classes can't go 8-11. I don't find it insensitive at all. He founded the university so that we could learn. I'm sure he'd want us to learn as much as we can while still paying our respects.

My class cancelled because it's a 4-week class and the teacher thought we could afford to take the day off. She actually cancelled class because of how packed campus would be, not for the funeral itself. The funeral isn't til 1 or 1:30. I just don't think it's disrespectful. We're carrying out his mission while still honoring him.

No, I'm not sure. I'm off work this week though, so I haven't been paying attention to email.

OK, that's a lie. You probably can't sleep at night w/o the gentle soothing humming sound of a rotating hard drive in the background.

Let me clarify. I haven't been paying attention to work-related email. I try to really enjoy my days off, even if they're just taken so my wife can get in a full week at her office out of necessity.

Update: I'm assuming they shut down the portal to save processing power on the web servers when the Liberty Channel stream of the funeral was being hit hard today. They're probably just keeping it offline because this has given them an excuse to do maintenance. Just my best guess, but that's usually about how things go. We rarely get scheduled downtime, so when we do, we have to take advantage.

What stinks is that us professors who failed to write down what mandatory workshops we are attending on Weds cannot access the ProDev Portal...
...that, and all the staff that needs to get stuff done on Banner. Sure would have been nice to have at least given a heads-up.

To be honest, I doubt Information Services got much of a heads up other than "We're going to stream the funeral tomorrow. Figure that out."
