So Dallas Theological Seminary created this thing which allows you to compare seminaries and determine which one is right for you. They have 27 seminaries listed. Liberty isn't one of them. Just makes me wonder, what does this say about our seminary, reputation-wise?

What it says is that we don't have the ATS Accreditation, because ATS will not accredit online programs. Of the 27 schools on that list only 2 of them are without the ATS accreditation (Baptist Bible and Master's).

Perhaps the rest is simply just a snub for a host of different reasons (Caner, large online presence, etc.)

But we have a residential seminary program. Did it lose accredidation when we started the distance courses? And the fact the "distance learning" is one of the filters available, that doesn't seem to account for the snub.

Our seminary isn't held highly from people I've talked to.

We're looked at as a diploma mill.

That's what I used it for.

Keep in mind that DTS who competes bigtime with LBTS for online students assembled the list. It would be tough for them to ignore their big competitor in Fort Worth but they have no reason to even mention us. Most of the others they list are ones in which they measure up favorably. Perhaps a side-by-side comparison with our costs and flexibility didn't make sense to display in their marketing efforts.

And for the record, I don't think Caner factors into this at all. They are well aware of his presence in the Metroplex.

I keep hearing that DTS is losing the enrollment battle from my friends down here in Houston. David Klingler (yeah, that David Klingler) leads DTS' Houston campus and the competition is fierce with SWBTS' local campus. The problem they have is that most of the megachurches that can afford to underwrite the education of their staffers tend to be leaning more conservative theologically here in Houston. So SWBTS & LBTS are making hay as a result.

As sad as this is to type, this is all about numbers.

On a completely unrelated note, my 90-year-old grandfather who lives on Old Graves Mill Road is a Baptist Bible Seminary grad from back when they were in Johnson City, NY before they moved to Pennsylvania. Now that is Old School.

I work at a university with the largest seminary of its kind in the country. It's not on the list. Go figure!

Try to unravel that.
