Don't see a person with a significant political background being chosen as the leader. If you look at the tea leaves very close....................................................................... there might be a hint of things to come. Hard to say though. The bored is keeping things pretty close, quiet so far. 8)

Yes, establishment type. Establishment would love to use this as an opportunity to slip in the back door.
All this, and this is what you’re worried about?
Believe me Walker is not the only politician working behind the scene to influence the board’s decision. That’s just what happens when you’re the largest evangelical university. Evangelicals will always be a critical voting bloc. I agree with you, politicians should be ignored.

Something else to keep in mind, Jr turned down lots of donor money. I always thought it was to protect the University from those pushing a liberal social agenda. Who knows why now? Anyway, those donors are lining up waiting to see who comes next.

Would be 99% against a politician. Pence would be the exception though. And he's obviously not available.

Gonna be hard to match that skillset though--credible frontman with high-end executive skills.

Yeah, the right frontman can make all the difference. Think Bono or Mike Jagger. I understand that a board member may have reached out to Eddie Vedder, according to an unnamed source. I would personally advise against this. He's really not that talented, has a bad temper, and is far too green for my taste. But what do I know? Maybe that's just me.

No, better fit at a Catholic university

For the record, Pence is actually an evangelical now. Having said that, Pence isn't even available, nor will he be for some time.

As far as Catholics go--it really shouldn't matter. As CS Lewis said, it's "mere" Christianity that counts--the basic tenets of the faith--and not the little things that separate us.

Robert P George is extremely qualified in every way. He's a Christian who happens to be Catholic. Really can't imagine a more relevantly coherent voice than George. That said, he's really in a great situation with Princeton.

My best friend is Catholic. Knows Christ. We discuss the differences often. Way to many differences. And don't look for ND to hire a Protestant chancellor in your life time. I don't even think they would consider a "evangelical catholic" chancellor. But now, we can meet on the gridiron when ever they're ready.

I'm a defender of Catholics when Christians try to say Catholics aren't Christians, but I think we need a protestant leader of our school. There's too many differences in the Catholic Church and Liberty University for there not to be a conflict of ideals there.

And no, the next person doesn't have to be Baptist.

Every denomination is flawed. The only real draw for me is the reality of Christ.
As long as we don't pick Vedder I'll be fine. Just not original or talented enough. Stole Bono's look and style--and then tries to sound like Springsteen without Clarence. Don't even get me started with the oversized grunge clothes. I'm done.

All good points. But 10 was a transcendent album

I hear ya. But even Alice in Chains had a transcendent song with "Would?" In my opinion, songs like Even Flow, Jeremy, and Alive are just not on that level.

Having said all that, I'm pretty sure Vedder is a Green New Deal guy. If true, that would cancel him out right there. Might be vegan too.

This past week challenged all of us to the core. While we had been willing to extend grace and understanding to Jerry Falwell, Jr. before, once the revelations about his past personal life came more fully to light, we acted swiftly and decisively to ask for his immediate resignation, which we received.

Some may say that all the signs were there for a long time before last week. It’s certainly fair to say that there were questionable comments made, worrying behavior, and inappropriate social media posts, but all the signs were not there until the start of last week. While we still didn’t know the full scope of the matter, we have learned enough about the past to know that we had no choice but to take the leadership of Liberty University in a new direction.

We are also committed to learning the consequences that have flowed from a lack of spiritual stewardship by our former president. One of the leading forensic firms in the world has been retained by Liberty University’s Board of Trustees to conduct a thorough investigation into all facets of Liberty University operations during Jerry Falwell, Jr.’s tenure as President, including but not limited to financial, real estate, and legal matters.

Throughout these past few weeks, we knew we were being lifted in prayer by the entire Liberty University community. For this we are especially grateful, as we know it was by the Lord’s grace that we were able to put aside emotion and make the decisions that were necessary and essential for bringing calm to the storm. We thank all those who extended prayerful support!

“Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.” Matthew 8:26b

Of course, moving forward, we are very mindful that we must seek leaders who demonstrate a full commitment to the spiritual mission of Liberty University by words, actions, and example. That is why, in addition to starting a search for a new president, we are also reviewing options to establish a new role in the top leadership of the University for someone who will serve as a spiritual coach, mentor, and guide to help ensure that every member of the University leadership fulfills his or her spiritual responsibility to live out the Christian walk expected of each and every one of us at Liberty.

Lastly, we are charging Jerry Prevo to use the full range of his presidential authority to implement any changes necessary to improve the ongoing operations of the University, and to enrich the spiritual mission of Liberty University, not only for its students but also for every executive, administrator, faculty member, and the entire staff, and for a prospective new president, as well.

We ask for continued prayers as we all manage this transition and for a continued commitment by us all to fulfill our spiritual mission here at Liberty University today and always.

First off - I'm glad we're taking this step.

Second - the personal responsibility they're adding to top leadership will be a welcome change.

Lastly - if we're really being transparent, I think we should be able to know who is doing the investigation.

My first question was who's doing the investigation

That would be such a great position for him.

That is a great statement and this statement, combined with the independent investigation has the school going in the right direction. I will be a little skeptical until we see results but I feel much better than i did last week about the direction of our school.
