I'm not sure what to make of this ...
Liberty University to sell spring water

By Ron Brown

First came Thomas Road Baptist Church, then Liberty University.

Now comes Liberty Mountain Natural Spring Water.

All three were the ideas of the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, who died May 15.

While Falwell envisioned the spring water as a novelty item, he thought many in the LU family would like to have a 16.9 ounce bottle of memorabilia drawn directly from a spring on the side of what he called Liberty Mountain.

After reading the entire article, I think it's pretty funny really. It's a novelty item. Do we need a novelty item? I don't know. But hey, if it makes us a buck or two, sure. Go for it.

That would be Liberty Mountain Lager (and perhaps that's why pre-Dorm expansion LU only incorporated stall showers in the dorms...to decrease the likelihood of moonshining from the dorms.) 8)

I actually had heard about this months ago from an employee near the project but I refused to believe him. I laughed over and over saying "C'mon... yeah right..."

It pains me to see it in print. It's cute. To a small market of folks it will be cool... but boy is it funny. LU getting into the water business. Move over Dasani.

I really like the natural mountain spring water idea, esp. since Danville is going to be bottling it for us: that's one town that could use a little extra business.

I hope that LU will be able to sell its water on campus and at LU events. When I was working in athletics at another school, the university decided to market its own water. Problem was that our contracts with Coke and Aramark did not allow us to sell the product on our own campus. We had to market it through local retailers and via mail order until the contracts came up for renewal. I hope anyone looking to use this idea to generate revenue knows what's in writing.
