I seem to recall one while I was there. I think it was the Lynchburg Music Center or something like that. I am curious to see what else has made it out that way. What brands do they carry? Where do you go when you get a serious guitar itch? I also see that Lynchburg has themselves a Plan 9 http://www.plan9music.com/Home
I've been buying records / cds from the one here in the Carytown part of Richmond since the late 70s.

Lynchburg Music is the only real music store in town these days. They moved a few years ago and expanded their store quite a bit. They're primarily a Fender shop, but they do carry Gibson. They just don't get as many in. On the acoustic side they stock Taylor, Martin and Blueridge. Their current location is much nicer than what they used to have.

Some people consider L. Oppleman (the pawn shop downtown) to be a music store. They do sell music equipment, but it's not the same kind of place that Lynchburg Music is. It's still just a pawn shop.

i checked out that plan 9 in Lynchburg a few weeks ago. i swear it's exactly the same as the record exchange (Plan 9 bought record exchange). they said they were going to add more stuff, but I have yet to see any new stuff added. i actually think they ahve even less than the record exchange did. i had heard tons of good things about the charlottesville location, so i was more than disappointed at the quality of the Lynchburg one.

That just means you have reason to make a trip to Richmond to see the "Mother Ship" - the original Plan 9 here in Richmond...and while you're at it you can take a ride over to the west end of town and drop by the Short Pump Town Center.

The Lynchburg Music Store is extremely pricey--but is an upgrade over the older store. Don't go anywhere near the Pawn Ship downtown, not worth the trip, IMO.

Looks like the best place to get a guitar around Lynchburg is to go to Roanoke http://www.kellysmusic.com/ or head up 29 to Charlottesville

I just remembered another music store in Lynchburg -
STRINGFELLOWS MUSIC COMPANY 3000 OLD FOREST RD
SUITE B
LYNCHBURG, VA 24501 (434) 386-4912

Anyone ever been there? What did you think?

I've not been impressed by Stringfellows at all.

I'm okay with Lynchburg Music. It's not the nicest place I've ever been in, but there's nothing wrong with it.

I used to go to Stringfellows quite a bit, but I can never find it anymore. They change locations more than Billy Joe's did. They have relatively friendly staff, but not a large inventory. They used to be the only Taylor dealer in town, but I've read that Lynchburg Music sells Taylor now also.

I used to buy my strings there too, because I couldn't find Elixirs anywhere else. Those strings are so popular you'd think every store in town would stock them. I think Lynchburg Music does, but most of the time I went there they were sold out.
