I am moving back to the 'burg soon and I am curious as to if MASN (Mid-Atlantic Sports Network) is on the cable system down there? I know Comcast Sports Net is. Also, about how expensive is cable there? Thanks

1) get satellite, don't waste your time with cable. 2) that channel isnt available. 3) if yoyu wamnt digital, as opposed to basic, is costs 61.95 a month and i think you have to pay a certain fee very month for each box you have. not sure on that, i only have basic cable with around 60ish channels and dont ahve a set top box.

MASN isn't on Lynchburg cable, but you can pick it up with a dish--both the Dish Network & Direct TV offer MASN, but you can get a better deal with Dish Network: MASN & 100 other channels (including locals) for only $29 a month. In contrast, basic cable in Lynchburg is $54.

The regular price for Dish Network is $39, but I got a special in June where I got 20 months worth for only $29. Here's a link to show you all the channels you can get, including MASN: http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/what ... kages.aspx

Satellite = No Internet

Until they figure that one out, I won't be a customer.

you can get broadband internet (6 mbps) from comcast for 42.95 a month. i know they ahve other speeds, but the website doesnt list them or what they cost. at least that's what the website says, doesnt say you have to get it packaged with cable tv or anything.

They charge you more if you don't get TV with it. Additionally, the 6Mbps is more than 42.95. You only get 2.5Mb for that price.

Even if it weren't for the Internet, you have to use the satellite provider's DVR if you go with them. That's a deal breaker for me.

hmm, i went through the whole checkout process, up until i had toi submit my credit card info to pay, as a new customer and it still said just 42.95 for that internet. maybe it's a special price for like 6 months or something.

didn't you just go to DSL? Of course I guess there's no use in arguing because you just got rid of TV altogether.

Yep. I downgraded to 768kb/128kb DSL. It'll take some getting used to, but it sure is a lot cheaper. I won't miss the cable TV since I never watch it anymore. (And especially since Comcast doesn't actually seem to be downgrading me so far?)

We're going through a similar decisionmaking process right now at the Sly household. We hate to part with our cable ISP but with Comcast taking over from Time Warner in a ballyhooed swap with Dallas-Fort Worth our rates just went up and the digital phone service we have had has been a disaster. We have to keep a land line for my wife's work. So we are hoping AT&T will get their fiber droppe din our neighborhood shortly so we have a cable alternative to Comcast. Until then, we may go with Verizon for land line & DSL.

I heard comcast is overcharging people like crazy on this switch over. And that customer service can neither explain it nor fix it.
