Notice they had him doing interviews alsmost the entire show.
My opinion is that the Derby needs to be re-invented next year. It's way too long. Make it two rounds take the the total home runs. Not letting Josh Hamilton's first round count towards the final last year wasn't really fair.
IT was also really boring because of ST. louis's Stadium. Unlike some of the others, there is nothing unique about it. The dimensions are the same all the way around. No High Wall, No McCovey Cove, No Warehouse, Train Track, or anything really remotely intersting. Would have been more intersting the SKy dome
Fixing the HR derby:
First, the MLB should let non-all stars compete in the HR competition. If Jason Kapono can play in the NBA's 3-point competition, Adam Dunn should be allowed to slug HR's.
Second, get a pitching machine up there to throw a consistent pitch. The hitter gets five minutes beforehand to have the machine setup to his liking, then after that, it's 10 outs. And none of this 'taking pitches' stuff. A taken pitch is an out.
Third, the player with the longest home run advances a round (or the longest home run gets an additional point).
Fourth, every home run in the first round is worth one point. Every home run in the second round is worth two points. Every home run in the final round is worth four points.
And here are two more for fun: Any home run hit with 9 outs is worth one additional point. Any home run hit on consecutive pitches is worth an additional point.
