From the Roanoke fishwrap, this story has some details on how the LU sponsorship came together through Stacy Compton:
Even at the small tracks, it's money that matters
It is not unusual for drivers who compete at places such as Motor Mile Speedway to seek out corporate sponsorship.

Stacy Compton remembers when racing wasn't such an expensive venture.

Just ask Stephen Berry. The 18-year-old Huddleston driver debuts a new ride for Compton at Motor Mile tonight. Berry's primary sponsor is not a low-budget entity. Liberty University in Lynchburg agreed over the winter to come on board Berry's car for the entire season, with the caveat that the partnership may be extended given favorable short-term outcomes for both parties.

You haven't lived until you have been to a NASCAR race, dodging chicken bones, waving your hat and drinking that yellow stuff that is quickly recycled while visiting the bathroom.
Addition.... Until you/you see someone get hit with an everlasting trail of beer while walking under the grandtstnd at the end of the race. (Its a little funnier when you see someone else)

Stephen Berry (current LU student) is preparing for the NASCAR Camping World Series East / West Challenge on May the 17th. This is a high profile race, Richard Petty is the Grand Marshall, and Kurt Busch will be amongst the current NASCAR drivers who will be racing.

The Berry team is working to raise funds to keep Liberty as a key sponsor. This is great exposure for the school. Join me in supporting Stephen Berry.

Try driving one... let me tell you- its dicey at 175 mph, let me tell you.

go to a race or two- you'll be hooked.
Yeah, the race experience is incredible, if only for the fascinating sociology. Businessmen in their polos and nice jeans mixing with total rednecks who are too drunk to walk by the end of the race (true story, when we went to the Atlanta race, we watched one woman being carried out by her husband and her brother/boyfriend. She was STILL pulling off that Jack Daniels bottle pretty hard, and there wasn't much left in it).

I don't pay a lot of attention to the race on Sunday (none at all until about 50 laps to go, really), but I'd go to another race in a heartbeat.

Yeah, thats him. I went to high school with him at NCS, and he's been racing for a while, nice to see he's finally given the opportunity to have a major breakthrough. Great pub for liberty in an area that usually doesn't hear about us.
