I think Coastal will win tournament, but the way things are going they could get upset. But no matter who wins, I hope they do not have to go to Dayton to play the so called play in game. Conference Champions should not go to Dayton.

1) 4 teams in play for 16 seeds will go to Dayton
2) It is very likely at least 1 will be a conference champion.
1 thing you need to realize.........

A conference champion should NEVER go to Dayton. A conference champion earned their NCAA bid. The At-Large teams that get in, were selected by selection committee. They DID NOT earn their bid. Thus 4 at-large teams should be in Dayton.

By your reasoning coach, if UK continues undefeated til the SEC tournament final and then gets upset, they will not have EARNED a bid to the NCAAs because they would not get the automatic bid from the SEC, which goes to their tournament champion. Every year almost as many bids go to teams that did not get their conferences automatic bid as to those who did. About as often as not the ultimate national champion comes from this group and by just about any reasonable method of evaluation, the worst 8 or 10 teams (at least) in the tournament every year are auto-bid winners from weak conferences like the MEAC, SWAC, and yes, the BSC. You have been harping on this for a couple of years, and it's pretty clear you are not going to allow yourself to be confused by the facts, but you are all alone on an island on this one.

NCAA rules give conference champions automatic bid. That's the number one rule for getting into tournament.

The 4 teams that go to Dayton should be the last 4 at large teams to get in.

The winner of BSC tournament has as much right to be in tournament as SEC or ACC champion.

Thing is, they weight RPI as well as overall record when setting the field, and there are only 4 16 seeds in the tournament, but 6 teams on that 16 line: the two "strongest" that don't go to Dayton and the four that do. Of those 4, you will have at least 1 conference champion from one of the weaker leagues, and sometimes 2 or 3). the other two matchups usually feature stronger at-large teams with better resumes than say the champion of the MAAC.

Sounds to me like they need a rule that says conference champions will not be a 16 seed. Conference champions won their conference and earned their spot. At large teams relied on selection committee liking them and GIVING them a bid

I understand the thought process. But the last 4 teams in already have a 'Play In' game. Remember VCU? That should take care of your need for that. IF you go by conference champions, do you mean regular season or tournament. When we went I am not sure we had a body of work that said we were better than a 17 seed!
From a marketing stand point I'd rather be in the First Four because you get a lot more media coverage and exposure than if you came in as a 16-14 seed

I have never liked the opening round but nobody asked me.

I do love how BJ somehow believes he is all knowing when it comes to the selection commitee. I also enjoy reading the posts in which he talks down to people and then turns around and gets his panties in a wad if you give him just a bit of a hard time. It's great. Or something.

NCAA rules also say that after the automatic bids from conference championships have been determined the selection committee completes the field by choosing at large teams and then seeds the entire field. It's only you that thinks one rule is somehow more valid than another. Just being a conference champion doesn't mean you are good, especially when it is determined by a post season tournament which can be won by a team with 20 losses.
