Sounds like what the White Sox do every day on the south side.

How about the Blue Jays?

I don't know what to think about them, but I think they could be legit. I have watched a couple of their games, and I think they just have that magic touch this year, like the Rays and Marlins have in the past. They have "one win a week" pitcher in Halladay, and the rest of the staff is good, bullpen is solid, and the lineup, while lacking elite power, has speed and production.

Also, Zack Greinke is pretty amazing. One of the five best starts of a season for a pitcher in MLB history. And all of that for the Royals!

Carlos Delgado out for awhile. With luck, he should return in time for the Mets' collapse.

Soriano belts a leadoff HR against Atlanta. Rookie Randy Wells dealing through 4...then Escobar gets hit in the bat and pretends that the ball hit his face.
I'm wondering when Bobby Cox will order the hit on Sori like he did last year..you know, the one that cost him 2.5 months with a broken hand.

The Cubs' bp blows it for Wells for the 4th straight time. The kid can seriously pitch.

I'm just glad Escobar was able to recover from the "hbp" to stay in the game. Tough kid you got there.

Both Braves fans at the game go home happy.

Braves trade a mediocre pitcher and their top prospect in the minors for Nate McClouth of Pittsburgh to boost their offense. wonder if this will affect alverez in Lynchburg.

Locke isn't anything close to their top prospect. Morton wasn't going to get another shot. This was an excellent trade for the Bravos. Kudos to Wren--sending Tommy Glavine packing, acquiring a solid outfielder and calling up Tommy Hanson.

I would agree with you. we traded Gorkys Hernandez along with Locke. Hernandez was our top prospect.

The Braves released Glavine right when he was about ready to return to the Majors. Thoughts?

I hate to see him go. but to be honest he's going to be like smoltz was for us towards the end of the year. I don't think he would have made it and been successful. sometimes you just have to cut them loose.

While it might have been the right move to let him go, the way it was handled was pretty bad. I think Buster Olney summed it up pretty well (It's an Insider article but you can read the part about Glavine for free).

The right move--very wrong in the way they went about it, though.

They knew Glavine wasn't going to throw more than 81-82 mph while coming back from his latest surgery. However, I don't have any sympathy for the way he bolted the Braves for the Mets for a few extra pennies a few years ago.

Hanson is a future ace, cheaper and is ready now. No reason to keep hanging on to Glavine.

I agree. The thing with Glavine was that he decided to bounce after NYM hung a few more $$$ in front of his face. So yea, it might have been handled bad but he didn't leave on a good note the last time. so I don't really have much sympathy.

Well, look at it this way:

Carlos Carrasco was rated as the Phil's best pitching prospect by Baseball America, better than Kyle Drabek. He was #2 overall, and #1 the last two years.
Lou Marson was the number #3 prospect in the Phillies organization.

Both of them are AAA prospects, and will contribute on a Major League level soon.

The Phillies gave up prospect #4, SS Jason Donald. And they also gave up #10 Jason Knapp (who another publication lists at #8, ahead of Kyle Drabek).

So it's not like the Phillies got something for nothing.

Actually it is...Carrasco has had a ton of chances with injuries to be promoted this year but wasn't because her ERA is way up this year. He is still young ( 23 i think ) but by no means is he the #2 overall prospect any longer. That was preseason based on expectations by Baseball America, reality isn't the same.

Marson - while a decent prospect can't hit for power at all, and we have a catcher on the roster still in his 20's, Donald would never see PT based on being behind Jimmy Rollins or Chase Utley in the infield. We tried him at 3rd, but he is just an average all around player.

Knapp is only in high A ball and already has "shoulder fatigue" and despite unreal strike out numbers this arm is now a question.

We gave up every piece that we weren't going to promote to the majors for any long stretchs and a guy in Single A ball who is at best 3-4 years away from the show. In exchange we got last years Cy Young winner......Ruben Amaro.....GENIUS!

You also got a guy who was 4-9 at the All-Star break this year is a year and a half removed from a demotion to the minors.

(Sorry. Bitter Mets fan talking).
