The reason I ask this is because of two players: Flynn from Syracuse and Singler from Duke.
Both teams were getting in the NCAA before this weekend. However, both made their championship games. Flynn for Syracuse played 144 minutes in three days and Singler played close to 120.
Is it worth it to potentially kill a player's legs to win a conference tournament when there's the national tournament a few days later?
Look back to 2005. Duke was a #1 seed. They had a great team. They were led by JJ Redick. He averaged 22 points per game throughout the year. In the ACC tournament, he played 118 minutes in three games and Duke won the tournament. In the NCAA tournament, he came out and had games of 7 points, 16 points, and 14 points while shooting 26% from the field before his team was upset in the Sweet 16.
So here's my question: is it worth it to play guys that many minutes in short tournaments? How would you go about it?
SuperJon wrote:What about Sheyer? He played I think 114 minutes. He's a shooter. If his legs aren't there come tournament time, was it worth it to play him that much?
Also, what you have been doing all year has had a 3-4 day break between games. When these games are pushed together this closely, there is no recovery time, meaning the recovery time afterward is that much longer. Should you change it up because of that? I'd really like to see some type of figure on how long it takes to recover after that much strain in that period of time as opposed to the regular recovery period. Maybe I'll ask Coach Gillespie that tomorrow.

huge day - i gained back those spots i lost in the 2nd round. looks like it's between us in terms of possible points. but we have completely different final 4 teams so it'll be fun to see what happens.

Scheyer - 3/18
Singler - 5/13
Henderson - 1/14
Had nothing to do with legs. Nova played incredible defense.

You're exactly right. In 2000, I had the great experience of being able to attend the Final Four at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. I don't think the RCA Dome is quite that big, but the set up was very similar. My seats were on the sideline, but they were too high up and too far off the court to see the action very well. I loved the experience, but the best seats were across the street at the bar....
Edit: Actually, if you look at the first pic, our seats were one section over to the right and about half-way down.
I take it you weren't there to see Winthrop play
At least we've gotten the closest to the Final Four
Got the tickets because of my dad being the Eagle Club president that year though. One of the better perks of that job. It did work out to see a team I like. I also pull for UNC and that was the year they made it as an 8 seed.
Really stupid game plan from Mark Few here. They're sprinting up and down the court as if they're the better running team. Just slow it down and get back on defense.

Yeah... I don't quite get that... Oh well.
It was my privilege to serve you today. If you have any feedback, please direct it to my Assistant Director....

A shame CBS would not (or local CBS) switch away from a blowout with 10 mins remaining to show the last few minutes of the only close game of the night. We only got snippets of Mich State!
Well the Big East is guaranteed at least one team in the Final Four and could potentially have three while the Big Ten could be totally shut out. Kinda funny how that works since according to somebody who we have discussed at length on this board they werent even supposed to get a team out of the second round and THEN instead of retracting the first round of ludicrous predictions made ANOTHER round of ludicrous predictions that in my personal opinion he probably made after a few too many rounds at the local sports bar.
Liberty Class of 2009
2007 AND 2008 Big South Football Champions
2014 FCS Playoff Qualifier

It's the John Thompson/Nolan Richardson mentality where you basically are telling the refs "this is how we play, and either you swallow your whistle or we'll be here all night" They usually give in and let things go they wouldn't most of the time.
I really don't think Uconn will win this with it being so close. They're having such a difficult time inbounding the ball. That's pretty important in the last few mins
