Sly Fox wrote:Did you hear we are going to be tearing down the Astrodome here in Houston? It has more considerably more significance in it than Turner Field could ever imagine. And it could be argued the same vs. the dilapidated relic up on Chicago's Northside.Oh no he di'int
Sly Fox wrote:More significant sporting events happened in the Astrodome in 50 years than in nearly a century of Wrigley. Of course, Wrigley is a nice biergarten and museum. But they sell out just about every game.
As for the draw, the place only seats 41k and the Cubs finished 12th this year in attendance.

Sly Fox wrote:For the record, the Cubs averaged 32k in a 41k stadium. And keep in mind that the Astrodome was the home of not only the Astros but also the Oilers and Houston Cougars back in the Run & Shoot glory days.
Let's face it, Wrigley is a nice place to take your shirt off in the sun and pass some time. It is not exactly packed with great significant memories beyond Bartman for most of America.

Sly Fox wrote:This is not a debate about baseball facilities. It is over the historical significance of stadiums. Two completely different arguments based on the decision to tear down structures.Yeah, nothing famous ever happened at Wrigley
The Astrodome was not a good place to watch baseball and certainly the ultimate pitcher's park. And given a choice between a game at Wrigley or MMP, I prefer the latter having experienced both. But I get your warm fuzzies for the "experience" even if little of consequence ever occurs there.
