If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

According to a CSU poster in this thread on AGS, the Big South is close to announcing a deal to bring in two northern I-AA schools in order to form a football league with an auto-bid to the I-AA playoffs. Take it for what it is worth, but perhaps KK is actually doing something proactive to try and keep CCU from jumping ship.

AGS Thread on Big South

For the record, the CSU poster went back and deleted his original post fromt he thread. Perhaps that's because he wasn't supposed to let the cat out of the bag or perhaps because it was foolish talk. Who knows.

Yeah--those schools really fit the name big south. What happened to their conference.

albany and stonybrook are associate members of the northeast conference for football, and central connecticut is a full member of the NEC. earlier in the year CCSU was ranked as high as #19 this year. in the top 25. does anyone think if this happened, that recruiting inroads would open in the northeast. there are some good football players up there.

It wouldn't hurt our recruiting up that direction, but I don't think it'd have a huige impact. Let's face it, if we were playing Army or Syracuse we'd be attracting a little more attention than Albany or Stony Brook.

As for CCSU, us old hags would be cracking smiles at the return of them to our schedules once again. I'm sure certain posters would begin regaling us with their personal highlights in a heartbeat.

Well I gotta tell ya I did have one of my best dunks against CCSU. Nice of you to notice Sly. I did this one with my right hand too. Most of my dunks were with the left hand or 2 hands but I was feeling particularly flighty that night. We went up there and won too. We had a home and home with them the same season. That is a great trip for going to see the basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield Mass.

Yeah, they pretty much ripped down the entire thing and redid it. I went about 4 years ago and probably 10 years before that. You went back when they had the conveyor belt you were on and you'd pass by hoops and you had to shoot the ball but like all of the backboards were at crazy angles. They got rid of that, but they kept the things like trying to jump as high as Jordan and all of those skills contests.

I was there this past August, and made the first shot I attempted on their court...a 3 pointer, no less :D

A CCU poster is saying he is hearing somilar things to what the CSU guy inferred. It looks like the Big South is closer to a football-only deal to bring in Albany & Stony Brook as affiliate members.

Perhaps Kyle has actually gotten off his duff and done something to save the league. Its no secret that CCU may be receiving their long-awaited invitation to the SoCon in the next couple of weeks. Perhaps this might be enought o convince them to stay where they are. With an auto bid, their chances of getting to the playoffs are MUCH higher in the Big South than the Southern Conference. And if CCU does go, it wouldn't stop us from getting an auto bid without them.

Obviously this probably wouldn't be a longterm solution. At some point the NEC would probably sponsor scholie football and these two schools would exit stage door left. But in the meantime, it would be a big boost to the league. As much as our league gets ripped, we are rated higher in RPI right now than several leagues with an auto bid.
