Coastal Carolina football coaches biding their time for now
Bennett expects new ideas from his recent hires

CONWAY -- In their first few days on the job, Coastal Carolina's three newest football coaches have shown a reluctance to open their mouths.

"All three are like sponges," Chanticleers coach David Bennett said. "They look. They listen. They don't talk a whole lot. That tells me they are smart. If I was coming in, I'd be trying to tell you all of my ideas."

Bennett appreciates their initial willingness to lay low but soon enough Maurice Drayton, Kevin Mapp and Patrick Covington will be asked to speak up. They may be the new guys, but Bennett and his coordinators want to hear what ideas, both strategically and organizationally, they can offer a program seeking to resurrect itself.

Is Bennett saying that these guys, with their lay-low tactic, are smart - and that he, by hypothetically acting differently were it he in their shoes, is not smart?

I like the new assistants' M.O. thus far. Better to survey the landscape to see what ideas apply, rather than just blurting any old philosophy. Hopefully this infusion of you can get CCU back on-track.
