I tried to find just a regular Hillcats thread but couldnt.


Anyways you guys gotta come out soon to see Alvie play. This guy is the real deal. I havent seen a player come in like this in a long long time. If he was younger we'd keep him for a while but having the college experience he has you better see him quick. So much power its sick. He hit about 3 balls over 340 feet and most of them were oppo which is even more impressive. Not to mention his skills in the field. Throws right but hits left....total package on 3rd.


So come out and enjoy him while you can.

My son went to the game last night and I texted him asking how Alvarez looks...
...his words: "Dirrrrrrty he hit an oppo bomb."

The clips on 13 last night were most impressive. He still looks about 30 lbs heavier than his Vandy days, though.

Yeah like I said it was even more impressive is the 350 ft bomb over the right field wall but foul...then he fought off a few pitches and hit the oppo bomb....nuts

To this day I am glad that even though I was never a big minor league baseball fan, I took a few nights back in the 80s to see the L-Mets with Gooden, Strawberry, Dykstra etc.

Tan State will be giving away free tickets for tomorrow nights game from 10-6


This might be the last chance to see Pedro before he gets called up (if he gets called up) and a good chance to see some good ball as the Hillcats have the best record in the Carolina League.

Pedro Alvarez was the hyped one at the start of the season.

Pedro is a stud. he signed for 6 million. He's top 5 in the league in all power numbers right out of college. That's impressive. Barring injury he'll be one of the best 3rd baseman's in the league in 5 years. You'll hear him sign a 40 million dollar contract one day...promise you

Yeah, he hits off speed fairly well. His biggest problem is just consistency at the plate right now. I think something like 6 of his 10 home runs though were to give the Hillcats the lead so that shows he can do it when it matters.



Strikeouts are high...but so are 90% of the power hitters in the game. He'll get that up though, he doesnt have a strike out swing or approach at the plate

the hillcats were just in wilmington playing the blue rocks last week (the team I'm interning for). yeah alvarez was a beast. he hit a huge bomb. but yeah we all knew he was good, there were a ton of lynchburg fans there with signs and junk. dedicated mexican folk...

Wow, that's funny....thats his family. His dad was prob wearing a Pirate jacket if it was chilly. They have all been in town for sometime now but wanted to go to the Blue Rocks on their way back to New York
