Here is the place for all other LU sponsored sports. Come here to post about: Men's/Women's Cross Country, Men's Golf, Men's/Women's Soccer, Men's/Women's Tennis, Men's/Women's Track & Field, Women's Lacrosse, Women's Swimming & Dive, Women's Volleyball
Well we know swimming is going to the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association or whatever its called...but any ideas to where women's lacrosse will end up?
thesportscritic wrote:why? cause they are womens sports being added?
Well yes and because they wont make the money back whatsoever. I mean most sports dont make ends meet on their own, mens or womens. At the same point it is good for us to expand, I mean come on if theres a womens Lacrosse then at some point (PLEASEPLEASE) I would think a mens lacrosse is coming in the next couple years.
i was thinking along the lines of Title IX as to why they added the women's sports (lacrosse, and swimming) being that men's sports at this point out number the women's sports. My guess is that they will bring in Men's lacrosse soon.

Pretty sure we had too many FULL Female schollies, and so we added wrestling.
i like the lacrosse add and hopefully we will get a men's team, as this sport is exploding!! getting in a conference could be tough as regionally only the ACC and CAA are really close and that's not happening. the closest independents are davidson, howard and longwood. maybe we will join one of the northern leagues like VMI does for it's men's team as they are in the MAAC if im not mistaken.

Lets not forget that Presby is also indy in women's lacrosse...unless they dropped the sport b/c they couldn't find a new head coach.
they were not listed on the NCAA site for DI lacrosse teams. PC had a 4 game season and went 2-2 and lost to the DI's on their schedule. maybe they are a club sport transitioning like we will be.
Athletics programs are considered educational programs and activities. There are three basic parts of Title IX as it applies to athletics:
1.Participation: Title IX requires that women and men be provided equitable opportunities to participate in sports. Title IX does not require institutions to offer identical sports but an equal opportunity to play;
2.Scholarships: Title IX requires that female and male student-athletes receive athletics scholarship dollars proportional to their participation; and
3.Other benefits: Title IX requires the equal treatment of female and male student-athletes in the provisions of: (a) equipment and supplies; (b) scheduling of games and practice times; (c) travel and daily allowance/per diem; (d) access to tutoring; (e) coaching, (f) locker rooms, practice and competitive facilities; (g) medical and training facilities and services; (h) housing and dining facilities and services; (i) publicity and promotions; (j) support services and (k) recruitment of student-athletes.

From what i understand We had too many womens schollies but not enough womens sports. Equal oppritunity to play = Same number of sports.
Its not practical right now but conditions may change in the coming years.
Athletics Dept. has already stated that they will Never take on the expense of travel and equipment that hockey presents. It's not even a legitimate consideration at this point. The sport is more expensive than football!
I agree with your assertions. But I wouldn't use the word NEVER. Ask old school hockey guys what the school told them about getting their own ice a decade ago. Circumstances can change. But I agree that it is not likely anytime soon.
